1: Glistening lids

Even though the party season behind us, who says you can’t continue rocking glistening lids? As one of the biggest trends seen on the Spring/Summer 2019 runways, shimmery eyeshadow will continue to fill store shelves. Whether you prefer a subtle hint of shine or full on glitter, there’s a wide array of options available for everyone.

And if you’re just venturing into this trend for the first time, get your hands on a shimmery cream eyeshadow, preferably in a stick format. This makes it easy to apply—dab a tiny bit of a champagne shade at the inner corners of the eyes to instantly refresh and energise tired eyes, or concentrate on the centre of the lids to give the illusion of added dimension.

2: French girl red

Red lipstick is probably one of the most classic makeup looks that has truly withstood the test of time. But if you’re still unsure about giving this bold look a try, it’s time to revisit the idea thanks to the sheer variety of lip colours that’s available in the market. Best part?

There are no rules on how to wear this fiery colour: be it richly pigmented to naturally sheer, matte or glossy, you can experiment to your heart’s content!

3: Dare to bare

The no makeup makeup look has been trending for a couple of years now, but instead of sparingly layering thin layers of primers, colour correctors, foundation and concealers for that flawless complexion, the focus is now shifted to skin prep. Instead of relying on painstakingly applying sheer makeup layers to perfect the look of skin, the focus is to achieve that post-facial glow by placing more emphasis on skincare.

For starters, make sure that your skin is adequately hydrated and that dead skin cells are sloughed off gently by using chemical exfoliators. Follow with a robust skincare regime of tried-and-tested ingredients like vitamin C and retinol to improve skin tone, clarity, firmness and texture.

4: Think pink

Is it even spring if you don’t attempt a new bright hue? Fenty Beauty’s shade extensions for its Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick got us super psyched—especially this rich amaranth pink that Rihanna’s wearing.

Aptly named Flamingo Acid, it is universally flattering for all skin tones and is saturated in pigments for a bold effect. Plus, if you just dab a tiny bit onto the centre of your lips and blend it out for a stained effect, it can even pass for a day at the office.

5: Coral eyeshadow

Perfect for working some colour into your routine without going too crazy, the coral eyeshadow look is seen on the runways of Altuzarra and Antonio Marras, as well as A-listers like Sophie Turner. Plus, we already know that it has a balance of cool and warm undertones and is perfect for every skin tone—we’ve been wearing coral blushes since forever, after all. If you still need convincing, it’s also the Pantone colour of the year, which means it will be major.

Opt for a satiny coral shade for a sheer, barely there effect, or go bold with a matte eyeshadow once you get comfortable with it.
