Beauty Trend: Sparkling eyes
Shimmer like a star this season with gorgeous sparkling eyes.

Glitter-encrusted eyelids have been a theme throughout the Fall/Winter 13 fashion collections – and at no show was the sparkle more fabulous than at Thakoon.

In fact, the dramatic beauty look, created by NARS makeup artist Diane Kendal, caused nearly as much of a stir as the clothes themselves. “Thakoon’s Winter collection is inspired by Summer,” Diane explained. “We wanted to reflect that in the makeup, so we did a very dark midnight blue shadow, but to get that Summer feel we added glitter on top.

“It created the perfect juxtaposition between Winter and Summer.”

So, how does one go about creating such a fantastical look?

“The key to this look is layering,” says pro makeup artist Katherine Louise, editor of top beauty blog Jemima & Ted.

“At Thakoon, the makeup artists used quite a matte deep blue shadow blended out and glitter pushed on over the top.

“For a similar look I would tend to apply shimmery cream bases and then apply a glitter over the top, using a flat brush to really push it in so it holds,” she adds.

With so many wonder products on the market, there is plenty of choice when it comes to selecting your eyeshadows.

But if you need a nudge, Katherine has some suggestions.

“My first choice for recreating this look would have to be M.A.C Reflects Glitter in Pearl – it’s perfect for this kind of high-impact sparkle,” she says.

“For a more affordable option, try the Barry M Dazzle Dusts, which are loose, shimmery pigments.

“The Molten Metals from Sleek are also great for a metallic look, although they’re less glittery and more of a shimmery gold. Illamasqua do these too.

“For more of an everyday look, try Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadows which are perfect if you’re looking for a subtler way to work the trend.

“Finally, a super cheap option is here from ELF – don’t know how good they are myself but perfect for a bargain,” adds Katherine. © Cover Media
