So, we did all the legwork for you by road-testing these 9 latest liquid lipsticks formulas (both matte and shiny finishes), so take this as your liquid lipstick guide before you head out to buy yourself a tube (or two) of lip colour heaven.

 

 

SOFT-SHINE: CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE INK, $49.
Texture: Liquid-y.
Application: Glides on like a dream with full, even coverage.
Colour payoff: Beautifully vibrant.
Finish: Slightly glazed but the shine is gone and becomes a soft semi-matte finish when blotted with tissue.
Wear: Feels pillow-y soft and smooth on the lips.
Transfer: Once you blot with tissue, colour sets well and there’s minimal transfer when drinking. Leaves a soft tint on lips for up to 6 hours without touch-ups.

 

SUPER SHINY: ESTEE LAUDER PURE COLOR ENVY LIQUID LIP POTION, $48.
Texture: Serum-like.
Application: Slightly goop-y, requires several swipes to get the colour on evenly.
Colour payoff: Super vivid and bright. Very eye-catching and almost fluorescent.
Finish: Super high shine.
Wear: Comfortable and creamy on the lips.
Transfer: Yes, this lacquer finish comes at the expense of transfer-resistance. Do not eat or drink if you want to preserve the lacquered, shiny finish.

 

SOFT-SHINE: MAMONDE HIGHLIGHT LIP TINT, $18.
Texture: Like a light cream.
Application: Spreads on like souffle. Required a couple of dips to get enough colour to cover lips.
Colour payoff: Beautifully vibrant.
Finish: A soft, natural shine.
Wear: Lips feel nourished and soft.
Transfer: Yes, a fair amount of transfer when drinking, however the colour tints the lips and lasts almost a full day.

VERY SHINY: YVES SAINT LAURENT BEAUTE VENIS A LEVRES, $50
Texture: Liquid-y.
Application: Glosses lips effortlessly but you need to dip the applicator back into the tube several times to get enough colour.

Colour payoff: Equal parts shine and colour.
Finish: Patent-like shine, in classic YSL style.
Wear: Feels slightly gooey but lips feel comfortable and moisturised.
Transfer: Yes, colour transfers on contact, when eating and drinking.

 

SUPER MATTE: NARS POWER MATTE LIP PIGMENT, $40.
Texture: Liquid-y.
Application: Very smooth glide. One dip is enough to cover lips.
Colour payoff: Super vivid.
Finish: Matte.
Wear: Very long-lasting and comfortable. The colour hugs the lips and requires a heavy-duty oil-base lip makeup remover to get off.
Transfer: None after the colour sets on lips, which takes about a minute.

Texture: A lightweight cream.
Application: Glides on smoothly like frosting.
Colour payoff: Slightly muted, with a velvety softness to the hues.
Finish: Matte
Wear: Long-lasting and very comfortable. Like its name suggests, it makes lips feel velvety smooth.
Transfer: Minimal after the colour sets on, but avoid eating greasy food.

Texture: Liquid-y and serum-like.
Application: Smoothes onto lips easily and comfortably.
Colour payoff: Rich and intense.
Finish: Matte
Wear: Long-lasting but don’t apply multiple layers to avoid flaking. Requires oil-based makeup remover to take off.
Transfer: Next to nothing after the colour sets on lips, but avoid eating oily foods.
