Yet another beauty powerhouse has decided to step foot into the world of skincare, and that makes this product a definite must-try. Youthquake, a hydra-full retexturising gel crème, is Marc Jacobs Beauty’s novel skincare product that was released after years of successful makeup launches that has led them to be known as a trusted, well-loved brand.

The promise

Youthquake claims to help the skin in two ways: first is to moisturise and second, to retexturise. Retexturising the skin smooths away dead skin cells and any uneven texture that may be preventing the moisturiser from completely absorbing into the skin. With the rough texture gone, the skin now has a smooth surface to receive a instant boost of hydration that can last throughout the day.

This multitasking moisturiser is also power packed with 54% enzymatic pineapple water and antioxidant-rich starfruit and dragonfruit extracts that combine into a rich crème with a fresh, tropical scent. It promises to give the skin a radiant glow and a smooth canvas for fuss-free makeup application after.

The first impression

When I first applied the moisturiser onto my face, I was instantly drawn in by the smell. It had a subtle tropical scent that wasn’t too overpowering. Yet, it was refreshing enough to give my tired skin a quick perk-me-up in the morning.

I applied two pea size amounts on each side of my cheek and massaged the crème into my skin – it wasn’t sticky or tacky, which I was pleasantly surprised by given the rich texture. However, it did take awhile for the moisturiser to absorb completely into the skin but when it did, my foundation and the rest of my makeup glided on smoothly after.

The verdict

I was looking forward to the promise of radiant and glowy skin after my first application. But I soon realised that the radiance came through on my skin only after multiple uses of the moisturiser. While there was barely any difference on the first day that I tried Youthquake, I noticed my skin becoming clearer and brighter after about 2 weeks of continuous use. My makeup went on smoothly, and I grew to love the scent so much that it became my holy grail moisturiser in the morning and at night.

For $78, it is reasonably priced, especially for such large tub where a little goes a long way in the application. If you have normal or dry skin, this moisturiser is especially suited to keep your skin hydrated during those long office days. Although the claim is that it provides 24-hour hydration, I could feel my skin needing moisture at the end of the day. So this personally works for me when I apply it twice a day – in the morning and just before I sleep.

Overall, this is definitely the type of multitasking moisturiser that I’d repurchase when I run out – after all it’s a good investment to maintain plump, hydrated and radiant skin.
