3 new cushion compacts that’ll make your skin look better IRL

Use them and you can expect an influx of “Hey, you look good” compliments from your colleagues and friends

We’ll admit it: Sometimes, we wish that we can look as good as Dee Hsu, Ella Chen and Vivian Hsu (don’t you, too?). And there are many ways of achieving that — from using the right products for our hot and humid weather (to minimise the chances of congested pores and pimples) to undergoing facial treatments that promise to speed up our cells’ turnover rates (hello, smooth and radiant skin!).

And honestly, the quickest way to make our skin look better in a snap is to reach for our trusty concealers or foundations. But truth be told, we still favour cushion compacts.

Travel-friendly built aside, they streamline our beauty routine (most of them have SPF so it’s fine if we happen to forget our usual sunscreen) and they’re mess-free because they don’t require any brushes or our fingers. Just pat on and go!

Which is why we’re thrilled to welcome some newcomers in the cushion compact world. Ahead, we give you a breakdown on the new ones to get your hands on.

#1 NARS Aqua Glow Cushion Foundation, $68

What they say: A radiance-enhancing cushion compact that cools the skin down and creates an invisible shield against pollution.

What we say: You’ll notice the glow almost immediately when you swipe it onto your skin. For those who wish to have a lighter coverage, we’ll recommend lightly pressing the sponge against the cushion because the moisturising pigments get picked up very easily. We love the semi-matte finish which isn’t too dewy or greasy. Those with oily skin type may wish to swipe on a light layer of powder to minimise midday shine.

Available in six shades at NARS boutiques and Sephora

#2 Urban Decay Glow Cushion Compact Foundation, $59

What they say: Get flawless looking skin with this weightless and longwearing formula.

What we say: You won’t have to worry about picking up too much product thanks to the cushion’s netted top; it prevents your sponge from soaking up too much pigments. Once spread across your skin, this cushion leaves an illuminated finish that’s flattering and natural-looking. In short, if you’d like to fake a good night’s sleep, this is your go-to before reaching for the door knob. Oh, and its iridescent cover is pretty cool for showing off on your Instagram stories too!

Available in six shades at Urban Decay boutiques

#3 Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Cushion, $81

What they say: Shoo away signs of fatigue with this hydrating and imperfection-blurring cushion compact.

What we say: Violet and rose have enliven this cushion compact by giving it a delightfully powdery scent, making the application an especially luxurious process. Unlike most cushions, this features a press-and-dispense plate. The blend is extremely blendable, leaving a smoother and brighter canvas that’ll have others comment on how well rested you look.

Available in five shades at all Guerlain counters
