5 tried & tested skincare products that gave me younger looking skin overnight

If your skin has been looking and feeling a little rough and dull, or if you’re just in need of some serious TLC, check out these five amazing skincare serums, creams and masks that have been tried, tested, and given a permanent space in my skincare drawer

#1 Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, $114 for 30ml

Best skincare overnight repair estee lauder ANR advanced night repair synchronized repair complex

Somewhat of an old-but-gold choice (the iconic serum was reformulated a couple of years ago), this reparative serum does wonders overnight. I love that it’s oil-free and extremely lightweight, yet hydrating enough that I feel comfortable using it without topping up with any other skincare products at night. On top of it being non-acnegenic (translation: does not clog pores), I’ve also found that it makes my pores look smaller and evens out my slightly uneven skin tone.

#2 Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream, $95

Best skincare overnight repair Kiehls Super Multi Corrective Cream review

While this isn’t as popular as the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, it’s a definite hit with me and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive all-in-one anti-aging night cream. It’s meant to lift, firm, sculpt, contour and smooth skin, but I find that it also does a good job at soothing dull and dehydrated skin. It may be a little heavy for daytime use in our humid climate, but makes for the perfect night cream for when your skin needs an extra boost. I turn to this on days when I feel like my skin is looking a little worse for wear, and I always see a difference overnight.

#3 Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Overnight, $65

Best skincare overnight repair Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar overnight review

I’ve been a fan of Philosophy since I tried their oil-free Hope in a Jar SPF moisturiser when I was in my late teens. It was my go-to daily moisturiser for a really long time, until I ran out - that particular product never made it to Singapore’s market for some reason. One of the brand’s most popular products was the original Hope in a Jar gel cream, but I could never get past the smell (an issue many others had with it). I was excited to hear it was being reformulated with skin-renewal technology in the form of a triple-blend of alpha hydroxy acids.

The overnight formula also includes a plant extract meant to boost cell renewal, fight skin dehydration and improve skin texture. The first night I tried it, I was suitably impressed: I awoke to incredibly soft and smooth skin the next morning. It’s the perfect night cream for anyone in their 20s or early 30s dealing with dehydration or rough and dull skin.

#4 Arcona The Solution Pads, $70 for 45 pads

Best skincare overnight repair arcona the solution pads review singapore

If you’re looking for a good chemical exfoliant that will do wonders while you sleep, these active nighttime treatment pads from Arcona are an effective option for helping to “resurface” your skin. They’re packed with antioxidants to mend free radical damage, as well as a glycolic acid complex that helps to exfoliate your skin.

It does feel like quite a strong exfoliator (some slight stinging to be expected), so always patch test it first and proceed with caution if you have sensitive skin. I find that leaving it on for a few minutes before using a calming overnight cream helps with the sting and keeps my skin hydrated. That said, it does a good job at smoothing your skin and refining and decongesting pores.

#5 Allies of Skin 1A Overnight Mask, $109

Best skincare overnight repair Allies of Skin 1A Overnight Mask review

If your skin is a little more problematic, this overnight mask from Allies of Skin also helps with acne. I found the day mask a little heavy, but I love a creamier mask at night. The formula contains a type of stabilised retinol which targets acne and anti-aging concerns like wrinkles and skin elasticity, but there’s none of the skin irritation one might expect from a retinol treatment. The mask also has antioxidants in the form of resveratrol, hyaluronic acid, and fatty acids to help with cell renewal, skin damage and dehydration.

While it did help to boost my skin’s hydration levels after just one night, what was more impressive was how it appeared to clear my acne spots over the course of a week. I also can’t emphasise enough how much happier I am using skincare that comes with a hygienic pump applicator
