This collection is a collaboration between Japanese cosmetics house RMK and fashion designer Taro Horiuchi for the beauty brand’s 20th anniversary. There are eight limited edition compacts in RMK’s FFFuture (Fast Forward Future) collection, all with cases that look like lipsticks – except they’re bigger and don’t just contain lippies. They make shiny examples of how good makeup combined with good design becomes a sure hit. We love that this collection is not only beautiful to look at, but also practical and hygienic.

The RMK FFFuture Cheeks ($54 each) comprises two different coloured blusher palettes.

The limited edition packaging also comes with a handy built-in mirror, perfect for on-the-go application.

Inside each sleek case (no bigger than a portable smart-device charger) sits a slim compact for either eyeshadows or blushers. That means the makeup stays where it’s supposed to – in its holder, not spilling into the silver cap, or worse, all over your bag. Attached magnetically to the underside is an applicator (sponge for eyeshadow, brush for blusher) that won’t budge however hard you shake the case. Yet, it’s easily lifted off the case with your fingers. Genius.

The RMK FFFuture Eyeshadow Palettes ($65 each) come in five variations, including the one above.
