My recent hunt for quality tinted eyebrow gels was driven by a hairstyle change (hair contouring story). My hair was dyed one or two shades lighter as a whole, and even lighter highlights were put in. This left my rather dark eyebrows looking woefully out of place. The thing is, my brows are naturally quite a dark black, which means they’re devoid of any warm tones, which were now all over my head.
As I’ve been on my no-makeup kick for the last few months, having such brown hair made my naked dark brows look a little sad and in need of help. I was turning to my trusty brow pencil to fill in the gaps and hopefully alter the colour of my brows in the process. The only problem was, that now all my brow products were too dark to match my new hair.
And so my hunt for a quick and easy solution began. I have to admit, a couple of these solutions were discovered by my very own mother. She had been searching for pigmented brow gels as well, though for a rather opposing purpose – she wanted something that would cover grey eyebrow hairs. Still, our needs were the same, and I decided to try two of the products she’d recently acquired. Spoiler alert: I loved them.
All of these products do a great job at covering the colour of your current eyebrows, although I wish that some of them had more of a shade range.

I’ve heard amazing things about the brand’s clear brow gel. It’s been touted as the best clear brow gel ever! And it does an amazing job at pretty much cementing your eyebrows in place. The tinted one on the other hand, I heard not-so-great things about. That was until I tried it for myself.
I picked this up from my mum’s vanity without looking at the brand or label, and used it one night as I was running out the door. The coverage was wonderful, and it had a good amount of hold to it which meant my brows were going to stay in place all night. The one issue I had when applying it, is that the wand is a little large, meaning the product managed to get onto the skin above and below my brow. That said, all I needed was a damp cotton bud and that mess was easily dealt with. I’ve determined with more practice that you simply need to be very careful when applying it, and should dip the mascara wand back into the tube before tackling your second eyebrow.
Lastly, this product has a really great shade range, more than most eyebrow products out there. Then again, Anastasia is a brand that’s fully dedicated to their brows. You can shop the product on www.beautybay.com, and best of all, it hits the minimum spend required for free shipping!

I’ve been a fan of the Gimme Brow for years, but the 3D brow tones are a new discovery that have completely blown my mind. If you’ve tried the Gimme Brow, you’ll know it has a wonderfully tiny brush that reaches all the little brow hairs without getting any product on your skin, and does a pretty decent job at keeping your brows in place once they’re tinted. That said the tint on the Gimme Brow is a one-dimensional colour – something I never imagined would feel lacking until I discovered the 3D Brow Tones.
Think of the 3D Brow Tones as a highlighter for your brows. In the same way my newly brown hair had slightly brighter highlights strewn about, this brow product also deposits a lovely subtle highlight colour on top of your existing brow colour. The highlight is definitely subtle enough that it won’t turn heads, but it does an amazing job at giving your brows a chance to mimic the dimension in your hair. I quite frankly consider it my brow discovery of the year. The colour I’ve been using is shade 2, and it’s a light/medium bronzey colour with some shimmer. The brush is designed in a way that prevents too much product from going on your brows, so you can build it up if you wish.

I admit, I rarely give Korean beauty products a try. Part of it is because all their brow products are geared towards much lighter hair colours, and they rarely have anything dark enough to match my hair. But with my new lighter hair, I realised that they would probably be a perfect match! I’ve got to credit this last one to my mother, who bought this for herself and found the colour a bit too light, though she really liked the pigment.
The first time I tried it out myself, I was sold and made a mental note to pick one up for myself. It’s also a fairly natural looking formula that covers the existing colour of my brows really well, while making them look a little fuller. The shade selection is still limited, but the natural brown or light brown should be a good match for anyone with lighter dyed hair. Lastly, I thought it had the best price point of the lot, which makes it a lot easier to buy and try out for yourself. It’s available at selected Watsons stores islandwide.

I love the brush on this brow gel. It’s long but skinny enough for you to get the tail of your brow without getting any on your skin. It also wasn’t too firm and left my brows feeling quite natural and soft, which I know is a subjective preference. I was also quite impressed with the shade range, especially if you have darker brows. There are nuanced undertone differences which make enough of an impact to matter. While I was using the shade Dark before my hair makeover, I switched to the Neutral Brown shade to better match my new hair.
This one also does a good job at covering grey hairs, though the formula isn’t as thick as say the Anastasia brow gel. You might need to go over your brows twice to make sure you’ve got all the hairs covered. It’s available in four shades and a fifth clear version from Sephora or the Urban Decay stores.
