Athletic makeup
With the 2012 Olympic Games just around the corner and sport luxe fashion remaining a dominant sartorial influence, fashion designers took note and sent their models down the catwalk with dewy, glowing skin and barely-there traces of colour on lips and eyes.

If you thought athletic beauty was about applying the right products for the gym, think again, because the fashion world is going crazy for radiant, healthy skin and a less-is-more approach to mascara, eyeliner et al.

At Alberta Ferretti, flawless complexions were highlighted with a silver sheen and blushed with rosy hues to give a fresh feel. Barely there mascara and a thin slick of liquid liner relied on softly defined brows to accentuate the eye area, while a dab of pink gloss kept lips looking natural.

Peter Pilotto emphasised his models’ features with glossy cheeks and brow bones bouncing off dewy skin. Keeping all other makeup minimal, a slick and simple ponytail completed the sporty look.

Alexander Wang went for a more dramatic approach with hydrated, water-drenched skin, smudged kohl liner and moist pink lips. Wet-look hair added to the aquatic feel, which makes for an edgy night-time look.

To create this natural look, start by prepping your skin with a primer. Benefit’s POREfessional Pro Balm will make your complexion shimmer while reducing the appearance of pores – essential for the flawless look this aesthetic requires. Use a highlighter such as No7 Limited Edition Natural Radiance Highlighter to create a sheen on cheeks and brow bones and dab lips with Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips for a hydrated, subtly tinted pout.

For natural and perfectly defined lashes try Estee Lauder Projectionist High Definition Volume Mascara but use only sparsely.

Finish off the look with a subtle brush of pink blusher such as Bare Minerals READY Blush or a bronzer like Mac’s Hey, Sailor! Bronzing Powder – and off you ready, steady, go! © Cover Media
