Thermal water face mists always sound like a good idea in warm, sunny Singapore. I mean, what’s not to love about spritzing something cooling on your face that’s supposedly good for your skin too?

Yes, “supposedly”, because when skincare brands started getting on the face mist bandwagon and making vitamin- and mineral-enriched facial sprays boasting a host of skincare ingredients (none of which were thermal waters), there was talk that sprays that were “just water” wasn’t good for your skin.

Some believed it had a reverse hydrating effect, saying that it feels good when your skin is just-spritzed and wet, but when the moisture evaporates from the skin surface, it also draws out moisture from your skin and leaves it dryer and more parched than before.

Now, as a huge fan of all kinds of face mists, I want to get to the bottom of this. I mean, I would happily try any kind of face mist from the thermal water kinds to the skincare-loaded liquids, because I’m constantly spritzing wherever I am, whether at my office desk, in the car, on an airplane or at home.

Different brands have different skincare benefits, which are said to be tested and proven to work.

  • Vichy’s thermal water is known for having the highest diversity of minerals to make skin stronger and more resilient against all aggressions.

  • La Roche-Posay’s thermal spring water has the highest amount of Selenium content, a mineral that regulates skin function with its powerful antioxidant properties.

  • Avène’s thermal spring water is low in mineral content, extremely high in silicates, and contains trace elements. Silicates give it soothing and protective skincare properties, and keep the skin feeling comfortable.
