Isn’t it funny how we’re staying home, yet our waistlines seem to be expanding? The regular food deliveries and reduced physical exercise, along with the many Happy Hour Zoom calls we’ve been doing, have resulted in a steady weight gain.

One of the first places the weight shows up on is the face. Your once sharp and defined chin has sadly doubled, or even tripled, over the weeks. And the folds are not flattering.

If, like us, you believe that a double chin is about one of the hardest things to get rid of – you can slim your thighs or tone your arms through exercise, but that double chin? – there’s help from Privé Clinic.

The aesthetics clinic offers a two-step approach – using Coolsculpting Mini and Exilis Elite, both non-invasive, low-downtime and comfortable fat-busting treatments – to help you reduce that unsightly double chin.

The key is in destroying the fat cells that cause this chin bulge, and then lifting and shaping the area. Privé Clinic’s Coolsculpting Mini destroys the fat in the skin’s surface layers, while Exilis Elite uses radio frequency to target fats in the skin’s deeper layers. At the same time, it promotes collagen modelling and lifts the skin for a slimmer and more defined jawline.

Together, these two treatments make for a holistic fat-reduction solution.

Step 1: freeze the fats away with Coolsculpting Mini

Dr Karen Soh, medical director of Privé Clinic, says Coolsculpting is a very versatile treatment as it can not only be used on areas such as the tummy, underarms or thighs, but also to target a double chin. This can be done by using a small applicator size.

This US FDA-approved non-surgical fat reduction treatment works by using a fat-freezing technology known as cryolipolysis to destroy the fat in the surface layer – by up to 20 per cent. Most importantly, it does so by using a controlled cooling method, so that it doesn’t cause any damage to the surrounding nerves and tissues, leaving the skin surface unharmed.

The body then naturally flushes out these dead fat cells through its lymphatic and waste systems over the following weeks.

Step 2: heat the fats away, then lift and tighten with Exilis Elite

Using a combination of monopolar radio frequency (RF) and ultrasound energy, this non-invasive face contouring treatment delivers controlled heating to target the skin’s deep tissues to encourage the production of new collagen.

This in turn addresses wrinkles and sagging, while tightening the skin and reducing fat at the same time.

Dr Soh says: “The applicator tip comes with a built-in thermometer, so there is no risk of overheating and burning the skin during the treatment.” This real-time control of cooling and heating elements ensures that the skin remains comfortable at all times.

Over time, skin looks smoother and firmer.

A hard worker, the Elite Facelift can also be used to target areas such as the eyes, neck, decolletage, arms, tummy, buttocks, thighs and even knees.

3 things to know before signing up

1. It is recommended to do Privé Clinic’s Coolsculpting Mini treatment first and then Exilis Elite, as the former breaks down the bulk of fat cells while the latter targets the remaining fat cells and contours the jawline for a slimmer and more lifted look. There is no fixed interval between the two treatments; they can even be done together and be just as effective. It all varies from patient to patient, and your doctor will advise you on the best course of action.

2. While both treatments are comfortable and come with little downtime, Dr Soh does add that in some instances, there might be mild bruising or tenderness after the Coolsculpting Mini treatment. But this should subside within three to five days.

3. With Coolsculpting removing up to 20 per cent of fat cells in the treated area each time, most patients will see results after one session. However, more sessions might be recommended if your problem is more severe. Dr Soh also recommends continuing with monthly treatments of Exilis Elite to maintain your newly defined and lifted jawline.
