how to grow out and groom eyebrows - story

#1 Stop tweezing
It’s almost as though we can’t be held responsible for our actions the moment we pick up a tweezer. The majority of us will end up getting carried away and over tweezing our eyebrows if given the chance. It can take anywhere between two to four months for your eyebrows to grow back, so if you can, leave them alone as much as possible. It might be impossible to stay away from tweezing completely, so see a professional to keep them neat or have the discipline to only remove hairs that are very out of place (like a creeping unibrow or hairs lower on your eyelids).

#2 Help them grow
From DIY concoctions of castor oil and Vitamin E, to lash growth serums and brow conditioners, there are many options out there that might speed up the growth process. Use them at night to give them the most time to work their magic. A slightly expensive but very raved-about brow serum is the RevitaBrow Eyebrow Conditioner ($175 from Sephora).

#3 Fill in the gaps
Pencils are the best at filling in gaps in your eyebrows and give you the most natural look, especially if you use short light strokes that mimic your natural hairs. When filling in your brows, you want to make sure that the inner corners of your eyebrows have less pigment and product, or you risk creating blocky, flat brows. Fill them in darker around the arch and tail of the brow, while leaving the front more natural and diffused.

#4 Create an eyebrow shape
Brow waxes, pomades and powders are better suited to creating a brow where there is none. So if you’re someone with very little eyebrow hair, invest in a great brow brush and some brow kits. You can try Sleek Makeup’s brow kits for something more affordable, or even order beauty blogger favourites from Anastasia Beverly Hills online (I love the Dipbrow pomade). Just remember, start light and build it up.

#5 Sisters, not twins
When filling in your eyebrows, it’s important to remember that they don’t have to look identical. In fact, they look more natural if they aren’t identical. It also saves you a lot of headache, unlike trying to perfect your winged eyeliner.

#6 Avoid drawing attention to your eyes
The growing-out process can be long, and if faking it sounds too tedious, play up other areas of your face to draw attention away from your brows. Consider large sunglasses, a long fringe (bangs), or even bright lip colours for lazy days.

#7 Consider a tint
If you have too-light or even too-dark brows, or simply want to adjust your brow colour to match your hair, try a brow tint. They tend to come in little tubes with mini mascara wand applicators, allowing you to brush the coloured product through your brows so easily. Gone are the days spent stocking up on cream face hair bleach and remembering to dye your brows. Of course, if you’re too lazy to tint them everyday, the bleach is still an option.
