It’s near impossible to go wrong with a brand that began with beauty editors. For those not in the know, Glossier was launched back in 2014 by Emily Weiss, the founder and CEO of beauty website Into The Gloss. Glossier is all about going back to basics with the bare essentials, and their first set of skincare essentials was focused on getting skin looking dewy and healthy sans makeup. The brand has only shot up in popularity since then, and it has branched out into makeup, while still retaining the same minimalistic appeal.
While you can currently buy the original version of the brand’s star product Balm Dotcom on Net-a-porter.com (which I quite dislike the scent and taste of), there are many other more impressive products in their range worth trying out. Check them out for yourself and you’ll see what I mean.

Pat McGrath is one of the most revered editorial and runway makeup artists across the globe. Her recent work has been especially attention-grabbing, from the gold lips at Prada’s Spring 2016 shows to the metallic red ones sported on the models walking the DKNY Spring 2017 show. Shortly after her instantly iconic gold lips made their debut on Prada’s runways, Pat McGrath Labs was launched. The first product released? Gold 001 of course, the very same product used on the models at Prada.
Pat’s editorial cred aside, something else that’s incredibly unique about her products are their “lab” aspect. Essentially, her products are packaged in kits with components that can be mixed and matched together to create other formulas. For example, the exclusive and limited-edition Gold 001 (only 1,000 kits were produced) comes with a micro-fine gold pigment, a mixing liquid and a spatula. The idea is for you to create any consistency you require in order to use the gold on just about any area of your face and body. Her kits are truly stunning, highly desirable for beauty beginners and industry observers alike, and we’d be crazy not to want it for ourselves.

You may recall my mentioning of Cerave in a previous story about how I got rid of my acne in two months. If there are only two products to suss out from the brand, the AM and PM moisturisers in particular are both affordable and well-suited to acne-prone skin. I’d first heard about said products on a Skincare Addiction forum on Reddit, in which countless members of the forum detailed the skincare routines that finally led to their acne clearing up.
Intrigued, I managed to find the products online off external third party sellers on Qoo10, and sure enough, the products helped a lot and my face cleared up in a matter of weeks. Lately however, it’s become near impossible to get hold of the AM moisturiser, as all third party sellers seem to be out of stock.
In fact, that could have something to do with the fact that French beauty giant L’Oreal has just bought Cerave, which it says is one of the fastest-growing active skin care brands in the United States. With the new acquisition, I’ve got my fingers crossed that the brand makes its way onto shelves in Singapore this year.

If you’re a fan of lipsticks in every colour, scent, flavour and texture, then you may have already heard of Bite Beauty. What began as an effort to create “edible” safe beauty evolved into a partnership between Bite founder Susanne Langmuir and Sephora.
One of the most exciting things about Bite Beauty at the moment is their Lip Lab. You can visit the lab and make your very own customised lipstick, choosing everything from a very precise colour right down to the texture and flavour of the lipstick. For now, there are only four Lip Labs, three of which are in California and New York, so while the likelihood of a similar set-up coming to Singapore anytime soon is probably incredibly slim, just being able to shop the massive variety of lipstick options on our own sunny shores would be a real treat unto itself.

It’s a brand beloved by beauty experts around the world, from the editors at Vogue Paris and Harper’s Bazaar in Spain to the team running Byrdie.com and Into The Gloss. The packaging is minimalist; the products are made-to-order and produced in small batches for freshness; and the science behind each product is complemented by sustainably sourced organic and/or so-called “wild-crafted” ingredients from Yuli’s own farm.
It’s also one of Her World beauty writer Charmaine’s favourite skincare brands. Take it from the woman herself: “What’s not to like about this under-the-radar beauty brand? Every product I’ve tried from the line so far has surpassed my expectations, but my favourites are the Halcyon gel cleanser which cleanses skin without drying it out, and the Cell Perfecto PM, a facial oil I layer over retinol to even out skin tone and improve the appearance of acne scars.”
Happily, the brand does ship to Singapore at the moment (one of five shipping destinations outside of the United States), but this does come with a fairly hefty shipping fee. Here’s hoping the brand hits our shelves soon to allow more people to get a chance to discover it.
