From The Straits Times    |

As someone with fairly sensitive skin, I’ve discovered that many skincare products out there are too harsh for me. If there’s one phrase that’s become almost synonymous with sensitive skin products, it’s “dermatologically tested”. These “derma” brands, unfortunately, can come with a pretty hefty price tag, so if you’re experimenting we recommend buying small or sample sizes first.

You should probably also realise that like any skincare product out there, those made for sensitive skin are not a one-size-fits-all fix. There’s still going to be some trial and error involved, and if your skin is really flaring up or in need of help, you should probably see a specialist. Meanwhile, we’ve rounded up five products that cater to or are safe for sensitive skin, all of which cost less than $15.

#1 Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, $14.90 for 250ml

If your skin feels dry and itchy, it’s probably because your cleanser is too harsh and you’re washing your face too often. Try switching out your regular cleanser for a milder one like Cetaphil, which softens your skin while it cleanses and is also soap-and fragrance-free. Alternatively you can use it on a cotton pad to wipe off makeup!

#2 Bioderma Sensibio H2O, $14.90 for 100ml

One of the newest non-rinse makeup removing formulas out there, this cleansing micellar water has become a must-have for many beauty gurus. It removes makeup very effectively (even waterproof makeup) and also soothes the skin. It’s also perfectly safe on the eyes. You’ll want to buy the biggest bottle out there after trying it.

#3 Avene Thermal Spring Water, $10.10 for 50ml

Sensitive skin is often more susceptible to drying out or is easily irritated over the course of the day. An easy way to help with this issue is using a facial mist like this one. Avene’s is made from natural spring water and does a variety of things like soothing redness from irritation, and calming itchiness. You can use it just to hydrate and soothe your skin after makeup removal, post-shaving, after a workout, and even on sun-burnt or damaged skin.

#4 L’Oreal Paris Gentle Lip and Eye Make-up Remover, $14.90

At one point in time it was hard to imagine a gentle eye makeup remover that could work on waterproof makeup, but here we are! This product has been on the market for several years now, and is still as well-loved as ever. A little goes a long way with this which is even better considering the price point, and it doesn’t irritate your eyes and lips. Don’t forget to shake it before use!

#5 Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser, $13.90

Now sensitive skin isn’t only about the face! The rest of our body has skin that needs caring for as well. We love the spray moisturiser from Vaseline which contains aloe vera to soothe your skin. The spray is quickly absorbed and doesn’t require much effort to spread evenly. It’s especially handy if you’re in a rush! Or try keeping it on your desk at work for when your legs and arms get dry.
