5 Best bath and body products to help you sleep better & more

You don’t always need to head to a spa to feel relaxed or energised. We’ve got 5 bath and body combinations that’ll help you to sleep better, prep for a night out and freshen up after a workout

#1 TO SLEEP BETTER
AVEDA STRESS-FIX CREME CLEANSING OIL, BODY LOTION, COMPOSITION OIL

Stress can disrupt sleep patterns – it sends your brain into overdrive and affects the quality of sleep. (That is, if you can get any at all.) It’s easy to talk about reading or listening to music to relax before bed, but some of us can’t even afford the time.

If you’re nodding your head to this, try this bath and body combination to help you unwind in just a few minutes.

$52, available at all Aveda experience centres

Take an appropriate amount of Aveda’s Stress-Fix Creme Cleansing Oil and massage your neck, shoulders and calves in the shower. Stand under the shower head – if you’ve got massage mode on yours, now’s the time to use it – with the water hitting your shoulders. Take in deep breaths and focus on the sound of the water. Rinse off the remaining cleansing oil.

$52, available at all Aveda experience centres

Next, smooth the Stress-Fix Body Lotion onto your whole body. And just before you head off to bed, take three drops of the Aveda Stress-Fix Composition Oil and warm it between your palms. Cup your hands over your nose and take six deep breaths. You can apply some on your pulse points and your shoulders, too. The smell of lavender, lavandin and clary sage from the range will help to calm your nerves for a better night’s rest.

#2 QUICK PICK-ME-UP
EARTHS BOTANICS TANGERINE & GINGER BATH AND SHOWER GEL
BELIF BODY BOMBA

$28, available on luxola.com

Zesty citrus scents work as instant mood uplifters, especially if you’re running on three hours of sleep. Pop into the shower and lather up some of Earths Botanics’ Tangerine & Ginger Bath and Shower Gel. There’s manuka honey in the formula so it cleanses and nourishes your skin at the same time.

$42, available at all belif stores

Finally, finish with Belif’s Body Bomba, a light moisturising lotion that dries to a silky finish – great if you’re heading out in the heat. The antioxidant rich moisturiser is said to help fight free radical damage, too.

#3 WEEKEND WIND DOWN
THE BODY SHOP FUJI GREEN TEA SHOWER GEL, SCRUB AND BODY BUTTER

Weekends are the best for pampering, but you don’t necessarily need to head to the spa for it. Here’s what you can do at home: Use a moisturising soap to shower first, then follow up with a body scrub to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface. You can use a body sponge to aid in the exfoliation process.

Clockwise from left: $14.90, $36.90, $32.90, available at all The Body Shop stores

When you get out of the bath, slather on a rich body butter or oil to deeply moisturise the skin while you kick back and relax. Try The Body Shop’s latest Green Tea range for a refreshing weekend detox.

#4 POST-WORKOUT REFRESHER
EARTHS BOTANICS CUCUMBER & MINT BATH AND SHOWER GEL
BLISSOMA AMEND ANTIOXIDANT SOOTHING BODY LOTION

$28, available on luxola.com

Take a cold shower to relieve sore muscles and speed up their recovery. Try Earths Botanics Cucumber & Mint Bath and Shower Gel to soothe post-workout skin.

Now here’s the important part: If you’ve been out in the sun, using a lotion that’s rich in antioxidants can help to repair sun damaged skin.

$49.90 available at selected BHG outlets and on charisnaturals.com

One we find great for this purpose is Blissoma’s Amend Antioxidant Soothing Body Lotion, which contains vitamins B, C, and E. They help to moisturise and brighten the skin, while promoting cell renewal at the same time.

The all-natural lotion has a calming herbal scent isn’t girly, so you can share it with the boyfriend or husband, too.

#5 FOR A NIGHT OUT WITH THE BFFS
CHANEL & JO MALONE FRAGRANCE LINES

Get your favourite fragrance to last through the night by layering it. Lots of brands offer a whole range of scented products from shower gels to perfumes and hair mists. Chanel and Jo Malone are two examples.

Start with the shower gel from the same line, then slather on moisturiser before spritzing on perfume. Scents cling better to moisturised skin, so don’t skip the moisturiser! You can spot apply or choose lighter textures if you can’t stand the feeling of cream in hot weather.
