4 new ways to blitz celluliteIt’s the dreaded orange peel effect that afflicts 90 per cent of women.

Yet despite millions being spent looking for a solution, cellulite remains at large for most of us.

So, what exactly is cellulite? And why can’t we tackle the unsightly stuff?

Cellulite occurs when fat deposits get trapped and squeezed between the stiffened fibrous bands that connect the skin’s tissues, leading to the puckered effect on upper and outer thighs and bottom, and also the stomach and arms.

But is there any hope for those saddled with orange peel dimpled skin?

Check out some of the latest and most popular innovations for blitzing cellulite.

Laser techniques
New laser cellulite treatment Cellulaze claims to melt fat and then break down the fibres anchoring tiny fat pockets, thus banishing the appearance of cellulite. After making a tiny incision, a doctor inserts a laser probe smaller than a pencil into cellulite zones. The laser then beams and transmits energy sideways from a rod to smooth out lumpy fat cells and heat dermal tissue. As well as blitzing the lumps, it stimulates collagen production just below the surface, and claims it will give a super-smooth result.

Eat watermelon
According to most dermatologists, eating water-rich foods is a potent way to diminish dimples. And the best option is watermelon, which is about 90 per cent water with only 46 calories per cup. What’s more, like plums, mangoes or just about every other water-rich fruit, it offers vitamins A and C, two essential antioxidants that help maintain skin’s thickness. By fighting off free radicals, which are damaging molecules generated by exposure to sunlight and air pollution, these antioxidants prevent the breakdown of collagen, skin’s support structure, and preserve elastin stores.

Caffeine power
Caffeine temporarily eliminates water in the connective tissue, making cellulite less noticeable. But sadly, ordering an espresso won’t do the trick. Look for a cellulite cream with caffeine and before applying, exfoliate with a loofah or body scrub. Exfoliating will get rid of dead surface skin cells, which would otherwise block penetration. Check out Shiseido Advanced Body Creator Aromatic Sculpting Gel, Bliss Fat Girl Slim or Vichy CelluDestock, which has salicylic acid to help ingredients such as caffeine penetrate better.

Under the knife
Liposuction has long been the go-to doctor treatment because it removes fat, and where there’s less fat, there’s less cellulite. Lipo, however, doesn’t attack the fat-compressing connective tissue that gives cellulite its tell-tale cottage cheese look so it’s by no means a miracle cure.
