3 micellar water products to tryMicellar water is a must-have item for make-up artists and skincare fanatics, but what makes this cult cleanser so special?

The product promises to thoroughly cleanse the face but in a gentle, non-abrasive way. Micellar water boasts the ability to remove all signs of make-up, even waterproof mascara, with just one brush of a cotton wool pad. It contains microscopic oil molecules, so the product feels like water when applied to the skin. Micellar water doesn’t foam up or leave the face feeling greasy or dry and is even suitable for sensitive skin.

French women have apparently been using the cleanser for years and now a series of cosmetic beauty brands have realised the power of the product and it’s gone global.

There are so many micellar waters on the market right now with prices ranging widely. It can be confusing to know exactly how much to splash out if you want to give it a go. To save you the headache, our trusty beauty team has tried out a series of offerings to help you decide which one is right for you.

L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution – 4.5/5
I was sceptical before trying this out, as many other gentle cleansers claiming to get rid of moderate eye make-up rarely do the trick. However, I was impressed with the results and it left my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed. The micellar water felt lovely when applied – it really seems like brushing your face with a cotton wool ball soaked in water. It didn’t sting and I was surprised by how quickly it got rid of my mascara and eyeliner.

The multi-tasking cleansers claims to dissolve make-up, unclog pores and leave skin feeling toned and smooth. I would certainly say it lived up to expectations and I will continue to use it.

Caudalie Make-Up Remover Cleansing Water – 4/5
This attracts dirt like a magnet, gently lifting grime from the face and onto the cotton pad. It effectively removes most traces of make-up from your skin without the need to rub, so it is less irritating than other products that require you to give the face a scrub to work. The intense cleaning action makes this perfect for those with sensitive skin, and the extracts of mint help calm and sooth the surface leaving a refreshed and nourished feeling.

Lancôme Eau Micellaire Douceur – 3.5/5
This cleansing water is so gentle it can be used by everyone, even those with sensitive skin. It boasts an array of natural ingredients, including White Lotus, Rose de France and Japanese Cedar.

The idea is to add some to a cotton pad and then sweep over your face, removing all traces of make-up quickly. I found it did the job, although I needed to apply several times to get rid of all my eye make-up. That’s in part because I am a mascara lover though.

My skin looked dewy afterwards and felt clean, although it was a little dry and tight. Adding some moisturiser quickly sorted the problem though.
