3 hand creams put to the testAnyone who has seen pictures of Madonna or Sarah Jessica Parker’s weather-worn hands knows they are a way to instantly tell a woman’s true age. For this reason, finding the right hand cream should be an essential part of any lady’s beauty regime. It often gets overlooked though, so we’ve taken the pressure off by doing the hard work for you.

Vaseline Healthy Hands + Stronger Nails: 1/5
The cream boasts keratin and Stratys and promises to smooth cuticles and strengthen nails by 50 per cent.

I used this product religiously, morning and night, for two weeks and didn’t find any demonstrable difference when it came to my hands or nails. At the time I was willing to give anything a go as the cold weather had played havoc with my skin. Unfortunately, this didn’t ease the issue at all. The cream has a nice, light, smell which I liked, but even straight after applying my dry skin didn’t feel nourished.

Soap & Glory Hand Food: 1/5
This is billed as the “most astonishing hand cream ever”. It is supposed to be non-greasy and hydrating and contains shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow.

The cream has a pretty strong scent which I loved, although a quick waft at some of my friends showed it’s not for everyone. It is pretty thick but it does soak in well and doesn’t leave hands covered in a slimy layer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much of anything else. My hands didn’t feel hydrated and I usually ended up using another product at the same time to get some relief from the dryness.

Nivea Age Defying Q10 Plus Hand Cream: 4/5
This is an anti-wrinkle hand cream which includes much of the same technology included in the company’s face creams. It also has UV filters to ensure hands don’t succumb to sun damage.

It has a light scent which isn’t at all over-powering, a plus point in my opinion. The cream is thick and it does take a while to absorb fully – especially if you squirt a little too much out of the tube. It leaves hands soft and smooth and any discomfort due to dryness is gone. Skin is also left feeling like it is covered in a moisturising barrier, which is a winner in my book.
