A somewhat controversial figure in her own right, Wendy Cheng – better know as Xiaxue – has shown that sometimes you can do whatever you want and get paid for it. The blogger has carved out a niche career of her own in Singapore and there is no one else quite like her. From getting sponsored a car of her choice, to an entire renovation of her HDB unit, we speak to the Queen of blogging at Dolly Wink’s Guinness Book of Records attempt.

TELL US HOW MOTHERHOOD HAS CHANGED YOU
The first six months were kind of tough. We kind of focused a lot on the baby, and we went out a lot less – and worked a lot less too! In terms of beauty routines, nothing much changed. The only thing that is a little bit different is that previously I could, at THE drop of a hat, decide to go for plastic surgery.

For example, I was recently offered a chance to have plastic surgery done in Korea. I know I would have jumped at the chance last time. But now I won’t want to be away from Dash for so many days. And I’m also really very worried that he’ll punch me in the face! On top of that, I won’t be able to smell him or kiss him (as I need time to heal) – I think I will really die lor.

SO WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE LIKE NOW?
Definitely a lot less than before. I wake up in the morning and I cleanse my face, if I have the time, I will apply some toner. Or else it’s just moisturiser and I’m ready to go. Before this (pregnancy) I used to do eight steps and I thought it was ridiculous already. In the past I even had time to mask my face, but now I don’t as much. I think I’m also getting lazy as I’m older. Haha!

BUT YOU STILL LOOK SO FLAWLESS ALL THE TIME!
No I don’t! Definitely not [laughs hysterically] I really don’t think I look flawless all the time. Sometimes I go out without makeup and when people recognise me and ask for pictures, I will usually decline.

ANY TIPS FOR MOTHERS WHO WANT TO LOOK FLAWLESS?
I guess the first step to looking flawless is to have healthy skin and good teeth. That’s very important. It goes a long way like even if you’re completely bare faced, as long as you have glowing skin and good teeth, that will help a lot.

On top of that, you should practice your makeup skills and make sure you’re really good at it before you get pregnant. So after giving birth, you can just have your baby sitting in a walker zooming around the room. And you’re there in a corner putting on makeup really fast.

WILL DASH BE GETTING A SIBLING ANYTIME SOON?
I’m actually back on the pill again. It’s not because I don’t want a second child, it’s more of like I kind of not want a second child yet. But it’s also because my complexion is so bad without the pill. I don’t think it works for everybody because I heard other people say it doesn’t work, but I had a friend with bad acne problems and she told me to try the pill. And it has really helped me. Sometimes I feel that we’re at the mercy of our hormones, like no matter how much SK-II you apply, it doesn’t matter. When the pimples decides to turn up, it will.

OK, LAST QUESTION: IF YOU WERE STUCK ON AN ISLAND, WHAT IS THE ONE MAKEUP ITEM YOU’D HAVE TO HAVE?
Lipstick, for sure. I know nobody chooses that ever, most people often choose the eyebrow pencil. But I just don’t like the original colour of my lips, so lipsticks are my must-have makeup tool. My favourites are Candydoll in Ramune Pink and M.A.C in Honeylove.
