#1 Kose Esprique Cool Touch BB Spray UV 50
Available in two shades, $32, from all Kose counters in June.
Kose Esprique Cool Touch BB spray SPF50 claims to cool the skin by five degrees celsius while minimising the appearance of pores for fresh, smooth skin. Here’s why: When the BB liquid leaves the spray canister, it vapourises, cooling it in the process, so it feels refreshing when it comes into contact with the skin. Hydrating ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid are contained within the formula too.
#2 Shu Uemura Skin:FIT Cosmetic Water Foundation
Available in 7 shades, $68, from all Shu Uemura stores and counters in June
Shu Uemura’s new Skin:FIT Cosmetic Water Foundation is a powder suspended in a “cosmetic water” – think an essence-like liquid with skincare benefits – that applies like a liquid but dries to a natural powdery finish. The coverage here is sheer, but it does enough to blur minor discolourations on the skin. It minimises the appearance of pores and is said to control shine throughout the day, too.
#3 M.A.C Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation
Available in 16 shades, $62, from all M.A.C stores and counters.
For something that’s more heavy duty, then try M.A.C’s latest Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation. This budge-proof foundation and concealer hybrid gives a medium to full coverage and dries to a satiny finish. The brand says you can expect 16 hours of waterproof wear-time as the formula repels moisture from the surface of your face.
#4 Etude House Zero Sebum Drying Powder
$13.90, Available at all Etude House stores.
If you still want to stick to your existing foundation or BB cream, then a light dusting of an oil-controlling powder on your T-Zone will help to keep your skin looking shine-free all day. Try Etude House’s Zero Sebum Drying Powder, which sets your makeup and absorbs excess sebum without a cakey finish.
#5 Kose Sekkisei Sun Protect Essence Gel SPF50+ PA++++
$50, Available at all Kose counters.
No one likes an icky, greasy sunscreen for humid days. Opt for gel formulas like Kose’s Sekkisei Sun Protect Essence Gel SPF50+ PA++++. This lightweight sunscreen looks like a cream at first, but transforms into a cooling gel as you spread it over the skin. It leaves a silky, supple-skin finish that blocks irritants in the air from clogging pores.
#6 Skin Inc Hydrating Shield SPF30 PA++
$68, Available at all Sephora stores and invertededge.com.
Another one to try is Skin Inc’s Hydrating Shield SPF30 PA++, but this one feels more like a milky solution at first. The brand says that the lightweight sunscreen doubles as a moisturiser with anti-ageing properties. You’ll find brightening licorice extracts, antioxidant vitamin E and hyaluronic acid in the formula, which help to fight free radical damage, dehydration and dull skin.
#7 Shiseido Global Suncare Perfect UV Protector SPF50+ PA++++
$58, Available at all Shiseido counters.
If you’re going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period, Shiseido’s Global Suncare Perfect UV Protector SPF50+ PA++++ is a good option. It glides onto the skin and leaves a silky smooth finish. What’s most interesting is that its protective properties are said to get more effective when it comes into contact with water or perspiration, so it’s great if you’re out doing water sports, too.
But remember this: Waterproof sunscreens are only made to stay on your skin for a longer period of time compared to a basic one for everyday use, not the whole day, so reapplication is still necessary!
#8, 9 SK-II Mid-Day and Mid-Night Miracle Essences
$89 each, Available at all SK-II counters.
Facial mists are a great way to refresh your skin when you’re moving in and out of the heat and air-conditioned environments, which is why we’re super excited about the SK-II Mid-Day and Mid-Night Miracle Essences.
While celebs have been decanting their Facial Treatment Essences (FTE) for years, these new mists have added moisturising capabilities, and are said to dispense mist particles that can deeply penetrate the skin, even through makeup. (Think four times smaller than the size of a visible pore.)
The difference between the two sprays? An extra menthol derivative in the Mid-Night Miracle Essence that gives a cooling sensation, and it smells nothing like the FTE. Other than that, both work equally fine.
#10 Bobbi Brown Face Mist
$41, Available at all Bobbi Brown stores and counters.
Bobbi Brown’s Face Mist not only refreshes your skin, but your senses, too, with the inclusion of natural soothing scents of Lavender and Geranium. Skincare wise, expect a concoction of antioxidant Green Tea, Chamomile and Cucumber that instantly provides your skin with a boost of hydration.
Now learn how to prime your skin for skin for foundation and how to keep your eyeliner budge-proof the whole day!
