What happens when the groom is an architect, and the bride a graphic designer by profession? You get a gorgeous affair that’s tastefully done in all aspects – just like Jin and Simon’s.
The two, who met in the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh, wanted a wedding that was timeless and elegant:
“We wanted a celebration we could look back on and appreciate without the changes in fashion and taste being a factor. The Clifford Pier was an excellent historical backdrop and inspiration, and created the mood for our wedding,” shares the couple.
“Simon proposed to me in 2015 while we were in Bandung, Indonesia, to attend a friend’s wedding. He left a handwritten note in our room asking me to meet him at the hotel’s pool deck,” says Jin.
“When I got there, he was on one knee with a diamond ring, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him,” she adds.
A moment with their daughter before the big day ahead.
“We met back in 2009 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. During a casual chat over drip coffee, we discovered that we had been neighbours as children,” says Jin.
A vibrant wreath served as decor for their wedding ride alongside their initials the bride personally designed.
Making their way to their church ceremony hand in hand.
The church solemnisation, lunch reception and dinner took place in one day. They had 300 guests for their church ceremony and 150 guests for dinner.
A large wooden frame displayed memories of the couple’s relationship during their church reception.
A scrumptious spread of desserts accompanied their lunch reception. Decor included bird cages, wooden crates and blooms in round vases!
The bride’s bouquet included her favourite David Austen roses.
“I wanted a smallish hand bouquet that still had some form to it, while incorporating certain wild flowers and eucalyptus leaves. However, I didn’t want something that was too informal nor droopy as well,” says Jin.
Their invites and packaging for the favours designed by Jin.
“As Simon’s an architect and I’m a graphic designer, we were both inspired by the architecture to craft a romantic art deco motif for our invites,” shares the bride.
“Many of our overseas guests were thrilled to be dining in the heart of Marina Bay,” shares the couple. And we can see why!

“When I first saw Simon, I could not believe it to be real and that the wedding was happening! It is definitely a surreal experience that only other brides would understand,” muses Jin

“Our wedding cake was as perfect as we could have imagined. It was a three-tiered red velvet, white cake with splashes of shimmering gold and even had a flower crafted on its side. The Fullerton Bay pastry chef really outdid herself with this cake,” says the bride.
“Our wedding was, in a way, flawless for us. Seeing all our friends and relatives in the same place, and at the same time, meant a lot.
In fact, it made all the preparations worthwhile. And, because everything ran smoothly, the first sleep we had post-celebration felt amazing,” says the couple.
Jin changed into a glimmering gold evening gown made by Joli Poli Weddings (based in Vietnam), for the latter half of the dinner celebration.
“One thing we made sure to do was to always have a budget set aside for all the items. Never give in to the temptation of spending “a little bit” more. Sometimes a less costly option can turn out be more suitable.”
