An amazing reception table, fairy lights and cute, personal considerations for their wedding guests are just some of the things that we loved about this wedding! The couple had food catered by Tung Lok and prepared a programme that included a live band and a showcase of personal messages from their friends.
“I invited about 30 of my friends and had a chance to speak to every one of them at least once during the evening. The rest were relatives.
Having attended large wedding celebrations, I’d always found it regrettable that the busy bride and groom usually didn’t have time to chat with their guests. I wanted as far as possible to avoid this, and to give each one my individual attention”, says Jeanne.
“Our celebration at Chijmes was classy, elegant and heartwarming. As we wanted to keep our guest list to a maximum of 200, we left out a lot of third-degree friends and acquaintances, as well as some people my parents wanted to include.
We had a mix of round tables for relatives and colleagues, and long ones for friends. This was deliberate as it helped make the venue look more spacious.”

Guests had two favours to choose from: a jar of nuts and dried fruit labelled “Nuthing’s gonna stop us now!” or a tote bag with the slogan “Totes Amazing!”

The table set-up consist of vase of white roses and foliage, fresh white tablesheets and glided photoframes.
Instead of a guestbook, people signed on the back of the couple’s photos at the reception table before the Chijmes church ceremony.
They also gave tea strainers to those who attended (left).

“In our quest to keep things as personalised as possible, we designed place cards for friends seated at the long tables that included a question specifically tailored to each one.
For instance, for a bookworm friend, the question was “Shafiqah, what book would you recommend the newly-weds pack for their honeymoon?”
Some of the answers were hilarious and I think our guests were surprised and delighted by the questions!”
“We kept certain crowd-pleasing traditional elements, like the yam seng toasts, but did away with the cake cutting, second march-in, childhood montage videos, and table photos.
Instead, we showcased personal messages from friends and mingled with guests. We felt we should share something about our personalities and love story, so everyone knew a little more about us.”
“It was a really memorable evening filled with love and laughter. I was certainly looking forward to the honeymoon as well!”, says Jeanne.
