If there is one thing most of the stylists agree on, it is really challenging to pull a look during the Star Awards. But despite that, the thrill of securing the perfect fit is worth all that stress and agony. We caught up with some of the fashion stylists who worked on this year’s Star Awards and to check out what goes on behind the glam.

Stylist: Johnny Khoo
Outfit: Chanel
Jewellery: Chanel High Jewellery

Why did you chose this outfit?
I like that it is hand crafted and embroidered by hands. There are a total of 4,500 sequins enriched with glass beads just on the collar itself. It is classy and confident.

What was the theme for this year?
I just want something that befits her status as “ah jie”.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Every year is a collaborative effort. But she leaves most decisions to me.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
Frankly I was quite single minded.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
We did two fittings, picked the high jewellery to go with the looks. But all smooth sailing.

Stylist: Tok Wei Lun
Outfit: Rachel Lai at Ivory bridal
Jewellery: Tiffany & Co.
Watch: Omega

Why did you choose this outfit?
We were sure we didn’t want black this year. The Tiffany&Co. yellow diamond caught my eye and we worked from there.

What was the theme for this year?
Something more feminine and classic

Was it a collaborative effort?
Yes. We discussed silhouettes and how many outfits we wanted to change. We have about three to four options and we locked down to two after the fitting as it’s best suited with the omega watches.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
It is definitely getting more challenging each year especially this year, as we are hoping for her 10th award! There is anxiety every year as we only manage to fit the dress two days before the event as the dress has to be custom-made for Carrie and flown in from China.

Stylist: Donson Chan
Outfit: White Abyss
Jewellery: Cartier
Watch: Hublot

Why did you choose this outfit?
I like that it’s not your typical long train gown, the ruffle quilting gives the leather dress a soft and romantic touch.

What was the theme for this year?
She is hosting the awards ceremony this year, so we decided to be less experimental and go for glam.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Yes we always bounce off ideas and our frequency is pretty much similar.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
It was between this look and another black dress which is more timeless and classic, but knowing that she will be walking up the stairs for the red carpet, the train will definitely have the wow factor.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
From my experience, Chinese designers are less responsive on Instagram and email. When I first reached out to White Abyss, there was no response. But they replied almost instantly when I dropped them a DM on RedNote. I guess it’s about finding the right platform.

Stylist: Daryll Alexius Yeo
Outfit: Gucci Pre-Fall’25
Jewellery: Bvlgari
Watch: Tag Heuer

Why did you choose this outfit?
We wanted something that could reflect both strength and softness. Ze Tong naturally carries a calm presence, but there’s also this spark in him that feels unexpected. So I decided to style him in two looks that explore that contrast. The first one was more expressive with embellished pearls and monogram textures, complete with micro pearl ear cuffs to echo the look, and the other, a beautifully tailored dusty blue suit that feels quiet but commanding. Both outfits say different things, but they tell the same story: that Asian masculinity today can be both poetic and powerful.

What was the theme for this year?
The idea of duality. The idea that you don’t have to choose between being traditionally masculine and being composed. One look is a statement, the other is a mood. For me, the theme that comes to mind is ‘soft power’. We were drawn to silhouettes and textures that feel cinematic, like they belong to someone who knows who they are, not just what they’re wearing. The Gucci dusty blue suit, for example, felt like still water. Calm on the surface, but deep, considered, and deliberate.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Absolutely! Ze Tong is incredibly open and curious when it comes to fashion, and that makes the process of styling him really fluid. He’s not someone who nit picks, but he has a sharp sense of what feels authentic to him. For me when working with a client, it’s never just about looking good, but it also about feeling aligned. Working with him always feels like a breeze with room to play and experiment.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?

We tried a few combinations, but when Ze Tong put on the pearl-embellished jacket, there was this unspoken “wow” and “yes.” moment for us both. I would say it’s very unexpected for him, but it just made sense. It had personality, but it wasn’t overdone. And when he slipped into the dusty blue suit for his other look, it was like flipping the page to a different chapter. The decision came naturally once we saw how the two looks played off each other.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
Let’s just say… as a stylist, a little creative persuasion goes a long way! Red carpet outfits aren’t always easiest to pin down during awards season, especially something as unique as a pearl-embellished monogram jacket. But I pitched the story we wanted to tell. Thankfully, the team saw the vision. We were also juggling timelines with Bvlgari to make sure the jewellery echoed the mood of each look. For me, I’m all about the little details in styling. For example, the necklaces sit just under the button line, the rings are stacked in soft symmetry, and the cuff peeks out just enough. Nothing loud, everything deliberate. It was a bit of a dance, but it all came together like a dream in the end...

He Yingying

Stylist: Hiro Ye
Outfit: Adeline Ester
Jewellery: Chaumet
Watch: Tag Heuer

Why did you choose this outfit?
This look was built around the idea of growth, resilience, and femininity. We wanted something that didn’t just dress Yingying for the night — but spoke about her journey. The moment I saw the sketches for this Adeline Ester gown, I knew it could carry that message. It felt like a love letter to her 10 years in the industry — quiet yet unwavering.

What was the theme for this year?
We called it the “Private Garden of Dreams”. It’s a metaphor for the space Yingying has cultivated over the years, through hard work and quiet strength. We wanted her to feel like she had just stepped out of that personal garden. graceful, rooted, and in full bloom.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Absolutely. Yingying was very involved from the start. She shared where she’s at emotionally — reflective, proud, still evolving. From there, we worked with Adeline Ester to design something bespoke, down to the placement of the blooms. Every element - the embroidery, the jewelry, the timepiece was selected to echo that story.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
When we saw the final fitting, it was an instant “yes.” The way the gown moved with her, the symbolism behind every detail, it just felt right. The look wasn’t just beautiful, it was hers.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
Definitely. There was a moment we weren’t sure it would be ready in time. But Adeline’s team pulled through. Also, pairing the gown with Chaumet’s bee-inspired pieces and the pink Tag Heuer wasn’t planned initially — but once we saw them together, it was like the garden suddenly had life and light.

Sheila Sim

Stylist: Jeremy Tan
Outfit: Comme Moi SS25

Why did you choose this outfit?
The brand is designed by ex-China top model and Sheila is an ex-model so I think the connection sealed it.

What was the theme for this year?
No theme, just I feel the look fit Sheila well cos she have nice legs and the dress can showcase her legs

Was it a collaborative effort?
No. This was purely my decision.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
No. It is quite a simple and straightforward process. I know the designer of the brand so is a trust issue.

Jesseca Liu

Stylist: Neo Li Rong
Outfit: Isabel Sanchis
Jewellery: Tiffany & Co.

Why did you chose this outfit?
Jesseca had never shown her long, elegant legs on the red carpet before, and I thought this high-slit gown was the perfect sophistication with a bold twist edgy— the high slit adds a hint of flirtiness, while the classic black keeps it timeless and chic. Instead of going for the usual diamond sparkle, I decided to elevate the look with a unique touch — the Elsa Peretti Bone Collection. It’s a subtle yet striking choice that made her stand out in a sea of typical glam.

What was the theme for this year?
Making statement but in a classic way.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Absolutely. Jesseca trusts my judgment completely, and her input is always appreciated. I am incredibly grateful for Jesseca’s unwavering trust in my styling for her over 20 years. She’s an absolute dream to work with — a true breeze to style! Her confidence is contagious; she’s so comfortable in her skin that I can throw any piece her way, and she’ll carry it with effortless elegance. She’s one true queen

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
Initially, we considered a velvet gown, the dress had some issues in shipment and could not reach us in time.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
The black gown was a last-minute choice that was decided one week before the show!
Initially, we had our hearts set on a different look — a luxurious velvet gown — but we mutually agreed this sleek, minimalist dress was the perfect piece.

Tasha Low

Stylist: Xue Li
Outfit: Chanel
Jewellery: Chanel High Jewelry

Why did you choose this outfit?
She instantly felt powerful in it, but still felt like herself. The feathers brought a softness, even with all that volume.

What was the theme for this year?
It’s bold in shape, but the textures and camellia details bring in softness -it mirrors the balance she carries naturally.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Definitely. And our team, from hair to makeup, helped shape the final look beautifully.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
She felt comfortable and confident in it -that sealed the deal.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
It was a smooth process this year -seamless and collaborative, with the Chanel team being incredibly supportive throughout

Stylist: Karin Tan
Outfit: Ralph Lauren Collection
Jewellery: Cartier

Why did you chose this outfit?
I wanted something elegant, simple and not “trying too hard” and this outfit seems to fit the bill.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Yes, we did a couple of fitting and we had multiple discussions and the look was only confirmed one day before the Star Awards.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
Truth be told, looking at the look I didn’t actually feel it looks nice, but it was during fitting then I realized that this looks will look nice when walking down the red carpet. And it gave off an ethereal vibe.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
The Star Awards period makes securing any looks challenging. The sheer numbers of celebs attending and their stylists are all fighting for looks.

Tyler Ten

Stylist: Donson Chan
Outfit: Fendi
Jewellery: Bulgari
Watch: Hublot

Why did you choose this outfit?
We fitted a few outfits and this Fendi deconstructed blazer stood out. I like the detachable lapel design, it’s versatile and bold.

What was the theme for this year?
A slight twist to menswear classics and masculinity.

Was it a collaborative effort?
It’s a two-way conversation. We fitted many options and were down with two which we couldn’t decide. But it’s good that Tyler has a clear vision - a clean neckline that accentuates the Bvlgari Serpenti neckline. That’s how we ended up with the final look.

Was it challenging to secure the look?
Initially I requested  a look from Fendi but I was told it was not available, so I picked this another look for our fitting. But surprisingly when I received the blazer, it turned out to be the one that I wanted except that it’s brown.

Rebecca Lim

Stylist: Sam Ong
Outfit: Jean Paul Gaultier
Jewellery: Tiffany&Co.
Watch: Longines

Why did you choose this outfit?
Last year, Rebecca attended the Star Awards just two months after giving birth. I have known her for almost 20 years and I have never seen her not confident about her appearance. She has always been very positive. This year, she has been working hard to be the best mother, a great actress and a healthier person so we wanted to celebrate that with a figure hugging yet simple and elegant JPG gown — very Rebecca Lim style.

What was the theme for this year?
This year we really wanted to celebrate the woman Rebecca has become. She has become so much more confident in her own skin over the past 20 years and we wanted to acknowledge that. Also as always, elegant and classic has always been our theme.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Of course. It has to be. I not only had many discussions with Rebecca but also had discussions with her style team on the best look , hair and makeup to match the outfit. It always has to be a collaborative effort.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
We all liked the outfit and Rebecca was very comfortable in both outfits we shortlisted. We initially only wanted one outfit but we couldn’t decide on which one, it was a tie. So we decided to wear both.

Joanne Peh

Stylist: Martin Wong
Outfit: Emporio armani
Jewellery: Tiffany & Co.

Why did you choose this outfit?
I wanted to go for an old Hollywood glamour feel, something classy timeless and yet stunning

What was the theme for this year?
I usually base my selections on feeling and the mood the celebrity and myself are in. As humans we all go through phases of our lives and I feel that the clothes should also reflect that.

Was it a collaborative effort?
We sometimes will throw ideas at each other to see what works best. I’ve been styling Joanne for almost 13 years ! So the selection process is now a lot easier because we have synergy.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
We basically did a fitting and I told her I like these choices. She felt it was the right fit and look. 30 mins and we were done!

Was it challenging to secure the look?
Securing looks is indeed getting more and more challenging with many of the brands having more wearable fashion pieces. So sometimes we have to think out of the box . I was quite set on the choices this year so the selection process was relatively fast.

Jeanette Aw

Stylist: Jenine Oh
Outfit: Shushu/Tong
Jewellery: Cartier
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

Why did you choose this outfit?
I wanted to present Jeanette in a new light — something youthful, feminine, but with a surprising edge. The Shushu/Tong  gown had the perfect balance: a soft silhouette with bold structure, which felt like a refreshing contrast from her previous red carpet looks which consist of more streamlined silhouettes.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
We tried a few different silhouettes, but the moment she put on the Shushu/Tong piece, it just clicked. It felt both unexpected and authentic to her. Once we paired it with the Louboutin platforms and the Cartier crocodile necklace, the entire look came together — it became an easy and obvious choice.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Definitely. Jeanette is always hands-on with her styling — she knows what feels right for her. This time, she was drawn to something softer and more romantic, but still with strength in the details. That direction shaped the whole process, and we built the look together from there

Was it challenging to secure the look?
It’s never easy securing looks for Star Awards — I think every stylist would agree. Between tight timelines, high demand, and competing with international pulls, it’s a bit of a fashion battlefield. This Shushu/Tong dress actually came in quite last-minute, so we had to move quickly once it landed.

The Christian Louboutin shoes were another story — they were specially requested directly from the Hong Kong team, and getting them here in time took a few miracles and lots of back-and-forth coordination.

One of the most memorable moments was our fitting session at the Cartier boutique. We got to try on a selection of their high jewellery pieces in person, which felt surreal. That’s when the crocodile necklace just stood out — it brought a completely different energy to the look, and we knew we had our statement piece.

Denise Camillia Tan

14/14

Stylist: Kelly Hsu
Outfit: Retrofete

Why did you chose this outfit?
We loved the high-low hemline and the open-back design—it felt modern and elegant. Initially, we were exploring more colourful options, but the moment Denise tried this on during the fitting, it was an instant yes. Personally, when I style celebrities, I prioritise how they feel in the look. Denise felt confident and radiant in this dress (from the first fitting to show day).

What was the theme for this year?
I was drawn to interesting, sculptural silhouettes but wanted to avoid a traditional, heavy gown. The goal was to find something that felt playful, flirty, and effortlessly elegant— something that allowed her personality and figure to shine through.

Was it a collaborative effort?
Yes, definitely. We had thoughtful conversations leading up to the fitting to ensure we were aligned in vision. It was important that we both felt excited and confident about the direction we were heading.

How did you finally decide on this outfit?
It was one of those moments where we just knew—the minute she put it on, her reaction said it all. She loved the silhouette and felt amazing in it, which sealed the decision for both of us.

Any interesting stories about how you secured this look?
Funny enough, this dress wasn’t our initial frontrunner—Denise and I didn’t say much about it beforehand, and we were more focused on the other proposals leading up to the fitting. But the moment she tried this one on, everything changed. We immediately dropped the rest—we were both so excited about how this looked and felt on her. It was an instant confirmation in direction, and we never looked back.
