One session, multiple zones: A targeted approach for stubborn fat and a shapelier silhouette

Stubborn fat – the kind that tends to sit around the abdomen, flanks or thighs – is often less about weight, and more about how it influences the body’s overall contours and proportions.

For some, it’s something they’ve lived with for years. As Her World Spa and Hair Awards reviewer Elise Wong shares, “I have always carried a proportionally larger abdominal area – something that has been present since childhood.”

One way to target these areas is Cooltech Define, a non-invasive fat-freezing treatment by OZ Aesthetic Medispa. Cooltech Define uses cryolipolysis, a process that uses controlled cooling to break down fat cells in a targeted area.

Awarded Best Body-Shaping Treatment at this year’s awards, it features nine unique applicators designed to adapt to different body areas – including the abdomen, flanks, thighs and back folds. It also allows multiple areas to be treated simultaneously within the same session.

What a Cooltech Define session looks like

OZ Aesthetic Medispa adopts a personalised consultation approach to their treatments. Each session begins with an InBody body composition analysis – a scan that maps fat distribution, muscle mass and visceral fat levels. This gives the clinical team a detailed picture of your body profile, informing which areas to treat and how.

For Elise – whose treatment focused on the lower abdomen – the experience felt comprehensive from the start. “The consultation was thorough and informative,” she says. “They walked me through the procedure in detail, including how Cooltech Define works, what side effects to expect and realistic goals for the treatment.”

Standardised measurements and photos were taken before the session. Applicator frames were then tested to determine optimal fit and placement on Elise’s torso. A Cooltech gel pad – featuring a patented RFID design intended to protect the skin and reduce the risk of uneven cooling – was then applied.

“The treatment began with a brief pinching sensation and a cold shock, followed by rapid numbness of the area,” Elise notes. “Staff were consistently attentive – they kept checking in to make sure the suction was firm but not painful,” she adds.  

Once settled, “only mild vibrations were noticeable” – comfortable enough that she spent most of the 50-minute session watching Netflix.

After the treatment: timeline and real results

Post-treatment, Elise experienced mild side effects – slight bruising at the applicator edges, minor soreness and some numbness. However, “My pants felt noticeably looser by the end of the day, and friends commented that my lower abdomen looked visibly flatter,” she says.

Optimal results with Cooltech Define typically emerge some time after the treatment, as the body gradually clears treated fat cells – and, as with any body-shaping programme, work best alongside a balanced diet and regular exercise.
