Anyone who knows me, knows about my shoe obsession, especially for more “unusual” shoe styles. So I was overcome with joy when I discovered that there was now a shoe store in Singapore dedicated to the more extreme end of funky, fashionable footwear.
The new P.V.S. store in Cineleisure – the letters are an acronym for “provisions” – is dedicated to shoes that are “young, fun and quirky for the women of Singapore” say owners Anthony Ho and Kevin Low, who are also the team behind the super successful Leftfoot shoe stores. They apparently wanted to create a “sister” store for the sneaker-land that is Leftfoot.

P.V.S. stocks fashion-forward, established footwear brands like GH Bass, Jeffrey Campbell – the “must buy” brand for any true hipster – alongside new labels like Mono & Me and The Sak. There are also offerings from Nike’s womens’ imprints, Dr Martens and K-Pop cult products, the adidas X Jeremy Scott range favoured by groups like 2NE1. Alongside the cool shoes, these brands also offer cute accessories including bags, jewellery and even hats.
“We have always taken pride in ourselves to be the outlaw of footwear establishments in Singapore with Leftfoot,” says Kevin Low. “P.V.S will be no different. It will be the female footwear version of CBGB in our context. Beware, the anti-heroine!”
The stand-out brand, of course, is Jeffrey Campbell. The cult footwear brand has styles that sell out so quickly they can barely be kept in stock; this label almost single-handedly started the “ugly funky shoe” phenomenon that reached as high as luxury label runways.
While the shoes are cutting-edge, the actual store decor harks back to the 1950s with its vintage product labels, art from The Strangely Good and a ‘Cherry Bomb’ window installation of preserved cherries in jars under the glow of pink light; it’s a bit weird but suits the products in an odd way.
“We decided earlier on to concentrate on creating a beautiful space filled with things that have both heritage and longevity, and of course, fashion-forward at the same time,” says Anthony Ho.
If you love shoes, love fashion, love standing out from the ho-hum crowd then you have to check out P.V.S.; another good thing, all these brands are fairly reasonably priced too so you won’t burn a massive hole in your pocket.

P.V.S: GH Bass Amber brogues

In 1936, GH Bass & Co. discovered a shoe in Norway that inspired one of the most readily recognisable icons of classic American style – Weejuns loafers. The popularity of the style was instant, and a year later it was adopted into the women’s collection that is now available at P.V.S. Also available at P.V.S is a collection that takes you back to being a kid with an Alice In Wonderland feel. Featuring florals and patent leathers in a variety of styles including saddles, flatforms and oxfords, girly girl designer Rachel Antonoff managed to bring a dose of charm and femininity to GH Bass classics.
