From The Straits Times    |

Santa Claus is in town! Well, kind of. The jolly bearded man decked out in his signature red suit is riding his sleigh around the different Robinsons stores in Singapore to meet kids and maybe give the nice ones a present or two during the festive season.

herworldPLUS caught up with Santa Claus while he was on a break because we love the man and wanted to know more about the elusive Santa who only appears during the festive season. We sat down with Santa Claus ‒ beard, suit and all ‒ and asked him some of the burning questions that have been on our mind since forever.

Hi Santa Claus! You usually deliver presents on the night of Christmas Eve down people’s chimneys, right?
Do I go down the chimney? Well, if they have a chimney, of course!

So, what do you do during the rest of the year, if you only deliver presents during Christmas?
When I’m not working delivering presents, I have hobbies.

What kind of hobbies?
Well, I make small furniture. I have a workshop … and I have a sailboat. I sail, I have a dog, and I chase him around a lot (laughs).

So do you have elves to help you along?
Oh, I have elves, of course I do. They get naughty, but I don’t punish them. They laugh a lot.

People say that you stay in the extreme parts of the North Pole. So, how can we find you?
You have to come to the North Pole, but I’m very difficult to find. I have a big place with lots of workshops, and a fireplace, wood stoves. It’s very comfortable.

Legend says that you give gifts to the nice children, but nothing is said about the naughty kids. What happens to the naughty kids?
Well, traditionally the naughty kids get cold. But I don’t think that way, so all children get presents.

So do they all get what they want?
Well, that depends. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.

So what if they ask for money?
Oh, Santa doesn’t have money. He only has gifts.

What about a Ferrari?
Well, they will get a Ferrari. A little tiny one (chuckles).

As a human, you must have aspired to be something else other than Santa Claus. What did you aspire to be when you were young?
I always wanted to be Santa Claus, but I was once a pilot. A retired pilot turned Santa Claus.

What is the weirdest gift request you’ve ever gotten from a child?
Like a real pony? But I always say that I can’t put that in my bag. It doesn’t fit in the bag, or the sleigh.

Santa Claus is only known to give presents to kids. Do adults get presents too?
Oh, Santa Claus gives presents to adults too!

Do we get a present?
I don’t have it with me right now. You’ll have to wait ‘til Christmas Eve! (laughs)

Santa Claus will be taking photos and meeting everyone at Robinsons until Sunday, December 15, 2013.
