We don’t buy straw bags because they’re the “it-thing”, instead, we love them for their personality and how they seem to fit everybody we need on a daily basis. Here are 10 of them to fit every Budget.

The case of the basket bag

A funny thing about fashion folks: The more popular It bags are, the more they turn away from them. That’s how the very humble woven straw/ rattan bag – in all its permutations – has become their carry-all now. We love Ikea’s Fladis seagrass basket as much as everyone else, but we are eyeing other options.

• Bohemian in Singapore (pictured above): Owner Lina Khoo is our secret go-to for a variety of woven bags from Morocco and Vietnam. $20-$100. Block 6B, Dempsey Road.

• www.amestudio.co: Local content creator Melody Tan’s baskets and totes – some made of palm leaves, others of seagrass – are from Morocco, Northern Thailand and South Korea. $55-$125

• www. bloomingdreamer. co.uk: The Londonbased label gets the original Jane Birkin Portuguese fishing baskets from the original source, Madeira, and it ships to Singapore. £28-£220 Woven fabric, $49.90, Topshop. (S$50-S$395)
