Ten years ago in October 2007, Singapore Airlines was the first airline in the world to add the Airbus A380 to its aircraft fleet. Then, Singapore’s national carrier brought in 14 of the double decked A380s, the largest passenger airliner in the world.

Five new A380s have just joined the fleet, and with them the airline is rolling out new and improved cabins and amenities for all its classes – economy, premium economy, business and suites. The new offerings will be retrofitted into the rest of the A380 fleet by the third quarter of 2018, said the airline’s CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong at the unveiling ceremony on Dec 14, 2017.

Here’s what we can look forward to when traveling on the new Singapore Airline’s A380:

Economy Class

All the seats have a new design and look, and not a moment too soon. The new seat coverings come in hues of dark blue and grey which look much more modern. Good news for economy passenger comfort, the new and sleeker design of the seats and fittings give passengers slightly more knee clearance and space. The headrest also has a wider range of movement and can now accommodate taller passengers.

Premium Economy Class

The seats here offer more comfort and space. The seat width is 19.5 inches with an eight inch recline, plus the seat coverings are of smooth leather. Noise-cancelling headphones are also provided. An additional feature – an extendable calf rest attached to a foot bar.

Business Class

Previously, to convert the seat into a flat bed, passengers had to first get up from the seat and release the seat back manually to lay it flat forward. With this new seat design, passengers only have to press a button to get the seat into a flat bed position. New larger pillows and padded bed sheets and blankets add a cosy, soft touch to your flight. For the two center seats, a center divider can be lowered if you’re travelling with a loved one, or drawn for privacy when you’re going solo.

Suites Class

The luxury of space is what this ultimate premium class of travel is all about. Each suite is like a room, with a sliding door for privacy. There’s a plush leather chair in which to eat, use your laptop, read, or watch tv on a 32-inch monitor. A separate fully flat bed can be set up by the cabin crew whenever you need it. And for loved ones travelling together, the divider between two adjacent suites can be lowered and the beds joined to make a comfortable double bed.
