How to deal with jealousy in 3 different situations.jpg

Jealousy isn’t attractive – even if you’re Julia Roberts (far left). She plays the envious queen in the Snow White film adaptation Mirror, Mirror. Image: Golden Village Pictures

#1 Your sister is “the pretty one”
Stop comparing yourself to her and work on your self-esteem, says Carla Henry, who launched self-improvement workshop Life Clubs in Singapore. What qualities do you have that are just as or more valuable? Make a list of all your positives.

#2 Your subordinate is now your boss
Treat your jealousy as a wake-up call, says Carla. You’re feeling this way because you’re not getting what you want. Channel your envy into something constructive, like putting together your plan for a promotion or pay rise.

#3 Your BFF is newly attached while you’re single
Deal with your jealousy by joining an interest group or club. You’ll make more friends, be happier and might even find a boyfriend there! Also, tell your BFF that while you’re glad for her, you don’t want to lose her friendship. Say that you would still love to spend girlie quality time together. Invite her and her boyfriend for a party and ask if he can bring his friends.
