Alice returns to Wonderland for movie sequel
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Disney is working on a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, the Tim Burton film that earned the studio more than a billion dollars in 2010.

Two years after Alice in Wonderland, Disney decided to launch the production of a sequel, with the help of the writer Linda Woolverton, who penned the script of the 2010 film.

Woolverton is used to working with Disney, having already collaborated on Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and the upcoming Maleficent, a story based on Sleeping Beauty starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning.

Nothing is known for the moment about the sequel’s plot, bearing in mind that Burton’s previous foray into Wonderland blended elements from Lewis Carroll’s Alice Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

Variety, which broke the news, makes no mention of a possible return for director Tim Burton or actors Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp in the roles of Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Tim Burton directed only one sequel throughout his prolific career: Batman Returns (1992).

Alice in Wonderland
was awarded two Oscars (Art Direction and Costumes) and earned $1.024 billion at the box office, making it the 12th highest-grossing film in history.
