While people believe that you get better results by working out in the morning because it gets your metabolism going, the truth of the matter is, there is no best time to exercise. It really depends on your schedule and what you hope to get out of your exercise. If you want to lose weight, for instance, author of “The H20 diet” recommends exercising at an hour before a meal and at least two hours after as this is the time when your body is getting energy from fat and not converting carbohydrates into energy.

More importantly, it really boils down on what you are most likely to stick to. If you are not a morning person, don’t force yourself to work out in the morning! You’ll wind up unhappy and frustrated with your workout session and you’re more likely to give up on your workout regimen too. Likewise, if you’re exhausted from work, don’t schedule your workouts for the evening because you’re more likely to skip it.

When you exercise in the morning, it prevents you from getting distracted by things that pop up as the day moves on. Also, the metabolism-revving effects of the exercise are also going to last throughout the day.

NIGHT

According to the author of “Boot Camp Fitness for All Shapes and Sizes: Complete Manual”, Bob Weinstein, exercising at night is great for managing stress levels. This is especially so after a long hard day at work because it helps to get that blood circulation back up so you can better enjoy your evening. That said, if you do decide to go for a workout in the evening, avoid doing stimulating exercises just before your bedtime because you could experience trouble falling asleep.

THE VERDICT

To reiterate, listen to your biological clock and work around your lifestyle and schedule your workouts at a time that is convenient for you. If you are experiencing trouble sticking to your fitness routine, consider setting up an appointment with a personal trainer or fix a time to work out with a friend because you’ll be more likely to stick to it.
