Not sure where to bring dad out for Father’s Day? There’s still time to consider. But if you don’t want to wreck your brain, here’s a list of restaurants – brand new or reliable – to call upon for a good celebration.

Get ready for a fiery evening at this newcomer at Marina Bay Link Mall with chili wontons, chili fried Sri Lankan crab and chili oil soup with braised grouper (yeah, you get the picture). The contemporary dishes here aims to be as authentic as possible – going right down from importing all ingredients from Sichuan to the head chef, Wong Chun Fai, who led the original Hong Kong restaurant to achieve a one Michelin star for three consecutive years.

3. The gourmet: LES45

Casual bites, check. Decent skyline view, check. Tableside action, also checked. LES45 – a posher version of Lower East Side taqueria at Katong – showcases a slew of modern and traditional Mexican foods. Think lobster tostadas, guacamole prepared tableside with a traditional Mexican stone mortar and churros. The items are all good for sharing, great for a communal dinner with the family.

The sprawling 130-seater restaurant boasts two kitchens: one for French cuisine, and the other for modern Chinese led by Executive Chef Jean Charles Dubois and Master Chef Andrew Chong respectively. It’s best for the dad who can’t make up his mind on where to go – or really, just to satisfy picky eaters. Look out for Sunday brunch on 17 June, a buffet with live stations featuring Maine lobsters, foie gras, a grand seafood display with fresh abalone, and premium cuts of lamb. Dads will also get a complimentary upgrade of free flow Champagne.

5. The adventurous: Restaurant Ibid

Mod-Sin is back on the menu. MasterChef Asia winner Woo Wai Leong pulls out a novel take on local flavours and hawker foods at his first brick-and-mortar restaurant. Think going to a Chinese wedding banquet, but with a series of unexpected dishes such as escargot skewers in doubanjiang or lotus glutinous rice with a slab of foie gras. Innovative, and still relatable dishes will leave Dad happy and very satisfied.

The new restaurant, opened by wine retailers 1855 The Bottle Shop, is home to over 800 labels of fine wines at affordable prices. Pick a bottle or go for the Fine Wine Discovery Program (a flight of six premium wines by the glass) accompany a list of Modern European dishes here. Chef Lee Boon Seng, formerly of the one-Michelin Osia Restaurant, takes a South-east Asian interpretation on dishes such as with duck breast glazed in chrysanthemum honey or pearl rice risotto with local skate and coriander broth (think chazuke).
