It’s official—Park Bo-gum is back, and we couldn’t be more excited. The star will be making his way to Singapore for his highly anticipated fanmeet at The Star Theatree on 14 August and fans are already beaming with excitement.
More recently, the star had viewers swooning when he appeared in Netflix’s latest K-drama, When Life Gives You Tangerines, alongside IU, where he stole the limelight with his boyish charm, undeniable talent, and signature warm smile. Not long after, he was also spotted fronting another drama – that’s available on Amazon Prime called ‘Good Boy’ – a South Korean action comedy television series, where he puts his boxing prowess to work as a crime-fighting police officer.
As he continues to make waves for his newer roles, we’re also reminded of why he’s been a longtime favourite. Whether he’s making us swoon in a romantic lead or bringing depth to more complex characters, Park Bo-gum has a way of leaving a lasting impression. And let’s be real—it’s not just about his looks. From his humble beginnings to his kind-hearted personality, there’s plenty to love about him.
Before he became the actor we know and love today, Park Bo-gum was making waves—literally. He started swimming at a young age and was a standout on his high school’s competitive team, breaking records and winning awards. But as much as he excelled in the sport, fate had other plans. After signing with an entertainment agency, he decided to leave competitive swimming behind to chase a different dream—one that would eventually make him a household name.
That doesn’t mean he’s left his athletic side behind, though. Bo-gum recently released his Season’s Greetings, along with a video where he’s seen taking on various sports like boxing, badminton, table tennis, and archery—just to name a few. Clearly, his love for sports never really went away, and honestly, is there anything he can’t do?
In 2022, Park Bo-gum was officially appointed as a global ambassador for Celine, and he’s been serving looks ever since. From attending Celine’s biggest events and store openings to effortlessly pulling off the brand’s signature sleek aesthetic, he wears it all with that effortless charm we love. Most recently, he showed up to the press conference for Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines in a full Celine look.
Of course, Celine isn’t the only brand that’s tapped into his star power. Over the years, Bo-gum has also been the face of ACE BED, Biotherm, Coca-Cola, Sunkist, and Eider.
Park Bo Gum made himself a bona fide household name with his role as Crown Prince Lee Yeoung in Love in the Moonlight. He was a tender and sensitive man who only had eyes for his lover, yet was a firm prince determined to bring change and do what was right for his country. What a keeper.
Park Bo Gum is a fine dancer – mighty fine, if we might add. If you haven’t seen him dancing to “Bombastic” in the teaser for Love in the Moonlight, you’re missing out big time. The video of him goofing off and swivelling his hips naturally went viral.
Of course, one of the top reasons we love Park Bo Gum is his big and bright smile – it instantly melts all our troubles away.
Seriously, what can Park Bo-gum not do? His deep, soothing voice (case in point: The OST in Love in the Moonlight) only makes him more swoon-worthy in our books. Interestingly, he actually wanted to be a singer-songwriter prior to making it big as an actor, even going so far as to send videos of himself singing and playing the piano to several talent agencies. He snagged some offers, but changed his career path as he was advised he would do well in acting.
If you watched Reply 1988, you’ll know it’s impossible not to fall for the adorable Choi Taek, a genius Go player who is mostly quiet and struggles with the simplest of daily tasks. In this role that arguably catapulted him to fame, Park Bo-gum captured our hearts with his innocence and naivety.
With the many first-hand accounts of Park Bo Gum’s respectable behaviour and good manners, it’s no wonder he’s been dubbed the “national man of good influence”. For instance, when he was travelling to Africa for the reality show Youth Over Flowers and missed his flight, he made sure to take care of the filming crew first.
Park Bo-gum is such a versatile actor, he actually sent a chill down our spines in his role as a serial killer in I Remember You, also known as Hello Monster. Despite his bright and positive image, he put up an outstanding performance with split-second changes of expression.
Park Bo Gum may be boyish and all, but once he’s in his element as a model, he exudes a manly charm that’s simply irresistible.
Park Bo Gum is never once complacent about his achievements, and is always very thankful for all the love he has received from his followers. He tends to be visibly overwhelmed by his fans’ love and is often brought to tears at fan meetings, where he profusely thanks them for their support. He also enjoys taking the subway, and sees no issue with it as it’s always punctual. Way to go for keepin’ it real!
