Stella McCartney’s Fall/Winter 13 line pays homage to Britain and her “Savile Row background”.

The designer showed her collection at Paris Fashion Week this morning.

Big coats, exaggerated pinstripes and plunging lapels featured in the styles crafted by the British star.

Stella worked masculine into the feminine by “redirecting lines” so an oversized blazer jacket gave way to a bustier or halterneck detail.

Speaking backstage, Stella explained that her shape-shifting lapels reinforce the label’s core designs.

“Women have a masculine side and if you tap into that you find another part of yourself,” Stella said to vogue.co.uk.

“These are the things I do, traditional and effortless, my Savile Row background, this was paying homage to those elements and Britain.”

Stella gushed about the collection to the stars joining her backstage, including Jessica Alba and Natalia Vodianova. She will be wearing the new range with pride, and has cleaned out her current wardrobe of clutter in anticipation.

“It’s about being honest to what we are, timeless classics but also inserting a femininity,” she said.

The collection contained classic Stella designs such as menswear fabrics used in her extensive coat selection. Sporty sweatshirts and pinstripe dresses also stayed true to her aesthetic. Easy to wear jumpsuits and flashes of bold violets and purple colour were also noted.

Bandeau necklines and the shoulder-wrapping trend seen at Jean Paul Gaultier also made an appearance in Stella’s offering.
