Marc Jacobs is the “crazy mother” of his fashion brand, according to his business partner.

The designer is creative director of Louis Vuitton, and also has his own eponymous labels which Robert Duffy helps run. The two men have been working together for years and are incredibly close. They are very proud of everything they have achieved in the world of fashion, which is part of the reason they decided to release new book The Men and Women of Marc Jacobs.

The tome is about the employees of the fashion company all over the globe, and Robert says it is a real eye-opener for fans of the label.

“We wanted to make a handbook as the company got bigger, something to explain the DNA, to say, ‘This is what we are’. There are a lot of people who have worked here for years and years and years – we have a very low staff turnover, some people have been here for 25 years – so the book documents the Marc Jacobs family,” he explained. “We’re definitely like a family. I’m the dad and Marc is the crazy mother! It’s like ‘How is she today?’, ‘How are her mood swings?’!”

Robert says part of the reason he and Marc work so well together is because they complement each other’s personalities. He is fastidious and worries about timing and planning, while Marc is much more laidback.

“Well, after this in London I’ll go straight to Milan tomorrow to get ready for the Marc Jacobs menswear presentation, and then to Paris for Louis Vuitton menswear, and then back to New York so Marc and I can start to think about womenswear,” Robert told vogue.co.uk. “We haven’t even looked at the set design or anything yet, but Marc says, ‘It’s fine, we have four weeks!’ © Cover Media
