It’s a catfight as models battle it out for Lanvin

Steven Meisel works his usual magic behind the lens for French fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2011 ad campaign

Models Iselin Steiro and Kinga Rajzak grapple unabashedly with each other in French fashion house Lanvin’s opulent ad campaign for Spring/Summer 2011, conjuring up images of animals fighting in the wild.

Acclaimed American photographer Steven Meisel – the successful industry veteran who is a fixture behind the lens at both American and Italian Vogue – shot the campaign, which juxtaposes the models’ less-than-elegant behaviour with their gorgeous dresses and accessories, as well as their luxurious, decadent surroundings.

The notoriously reticent Meisel is no stranger to sparring models, having shot Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell engaged in a series of skirmishes for DSquared2’s Spring/Summer 2009 campaign.

This particular Lanvin campaign is pure genius, however, since it perfectly embodies how fashion-conscious women are willing to fight to the death for a piece of the oldest fashion house in the world – the frenzy over Elbaz’s recent collaboration with high street store H&M springs to mind.

And it could certainly pass for an editorial straight out of Italian Vogue, with Steiro and Rajzak flawlessly cast; although their excellent chemistry together might be due in part to having paired up once before.

They were the faces of Missoni’s Fall/Winter campaign in 2008, joining Danish male model Mathias Lauridsen in several shots inspired by the political drama film The Conformist.

Although those who can’t get enough of Lanvin might be slightly disappointed that there are only four images in this campaign, the rest of the brand’s Spring/Summer collection is bound to cheer them up.

Artistic director Alber Elbaz – who helms the luxury label – lives up to his reputation as the most sought-after designer of the moment, having produced a collection that would make even the least sartorially-inclined lady salivate.

He favours a modern, urban glam aesthetic this season, incorporating lots of metal hardware embellishments, bright pops of colour, billowy, diaphanous skirts, and body-skimming, ‘70s-inspired pieces.

With a collection this exquisite, we would undoubtedly be willing to throw down for some Lanvin, too.

The Lanvin Spring/Summer 2011 collection is now available in store. Lanvin is located at #01-19/20, Hilton International, Tel: 6304 1361.
