Carrie K Artisan Jewellery THUMBNAIL

During his recent visit to Singapore, Yuji Yamamoto – read all about it in our story: Japanese fashion makes mark on Singapore scene – was looking for some local talent to add to his multi-label boutique, Make One’s Mark (MOM).

Odyssey Egyptian Hoop Earrings in Yellow Gold (above centre) and Carrie K. Reborn Safety Pin Ring in Rose Gold (above right).

And after much deliberation, Singapore jewellery brand Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery has been chosen to join the store’s line-up. MOM will carry a number of lines from the label, including including Raw, Odyssey, Liquid Metal, Charmed and Leather, as well as Reborn from the Veritas by Carrie K. line.

“It has always been my goal to have retail presence in Japan. Japanese consumers appreciate well-crafted artisanal work,” said Carolyn Kan, founder and designer of Carrie K. “They are open to designs that do not follow the conventional idea of beauty and this is exactly is what Carrie K. is about.”

Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery was set up in 2009 and features handcrafted jewellery that mixes contemporary designs with traditional methods of silversmithing; designer Carolyn Kan studied silversmithing in Florence.

It was this combination of traditional and modern that attracted Yuji Yamamoto to the label; “… We were looking for a like-minded local brand that shared MOM’s fashion philosophy. I felt that chemistry and strong appeal when I first met Carolyn. She exuded both gracefulness and strength, qualities of which she translated into her work.”

Yamamoto worked for his fashion icon father Yohji Yamamoto for over 20 years, rising from the cutting room floor to become director of Yohji Yamamoto Inc, and knows what makes an item stand out from the ever-growing number of labels and designs.

The adoption of this Singapore jewellery label into the MOM stable augers well for the future of Singapore fashion, jewellery and accessory designers.
