American luxe label Tory Burch has opened its first Southeast Asian flagship store in Singapore at the renovated Wisma Atria and lovers of the double ‘T’ logo couldn’t be happier.
With the brand’s first full range of womenswear, bags and shoes now available in Singapore, we thought we’d ask the designer herself some questions about the importance of the Asian market and a for a few tips on what every woman should have in her wardrobe.
What’s the importance of the Asian market to your brand? Did the economic growth of China/Asia spark your interest in opening a store in Singapore?
Asia is a key market for our global strategy. Its growing economy was an important part of our decision to expand our business in Singapore, but equally as important is its incredible culture and people. Singapore is diverse, modern, exciting and the women have great style.
How do you see the impact of Asian fashion preferences influencing your designs / products?
We added smaller sizes in response to our Asian customers’ needs, which we rolled out to all of our stores worldwide. We have also designed smaller totes and bags as exclusives for Asia, which we are now incorporating into the collection on a broader scale – like our mini Robinson satchel and Ella tote.
I understand that you spend quite a bit of time in Asia when you can; what’s something that you’ve experienced in the region that has influenced your collections?
There are many elements from Asia that have inspired our collection over the years. For fall, we were inspired by incredible flower paintings at the Leeum Samsung Museum in Seoul.
What are the five pieces that every woman should have in their wardrobe?
A classic satchel, a trench coat, a cardigan, chic flats and a printed dress
What is the one fashion item you can’t do without?
Sunglasses – I never leave my apartment without a pair on my head. I’ll wear anything from a classic aviator [pair] to colorful frames.
