Anna Wintour on American TVAnna Wintour says there were tears in the American Vogue office when the US president backed gay marriage.

The editor-in-chief of the fashion publication was over the moon when Barack Obama declared he is supporting the legalisation of same sex couples being able to tie the knot earlier this week.

In an interview with US talk show host Stephen Colbert, Anna told of her reaction to the news.

“I am thrilled. There were tears in the office at Vogue today in the support of gay marriage. We’re thrilled about the president,” she said.

The style queen also slammed the movie The Devil Wears Prada, based on the 2003 book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger.

The story is about a fashion editor who rules her magazine with an iron fist, who is widely rumoured to be based on Anna.

Stephen addressed the film on his show with a joke. “I don’t really trust Prada, because my understanding is the devil wears Prada. And this is a Christian nation, madam!”

Anna responded: “That movie was so last year. I mean, we’ve gone way beyond that movie.”

The 62-year-old gave the talk show host her personal opinion on his ensemble. Stephen wore a plain black suit for this show.

“Don’t you think you could take a few more risks with the way you’re dressing?” she told him. © COVER MEDIA
