Street style trend alert: Turtlenecks were absolutely everywhere at Paris Fashion Week – and before you scoff and say it’s absolutely impractical to wear them in Singapore, why not work them into your tropical wardrobe? Don’t let our humid weather deter you from wearing turtlenecks; opt for lighter fabrics instead of chunky knits.
We know turtlenecks can be a rather risky choice because of the much dreaded “floating head” effect. One way to overcome this is to look for funnel necks, which are a slightly wider version of turtle necks so you don’t look suffocated. Another tip: Emphasise your features by pulling your hair back and going for a bold lippie.

Yoyo Cao looks mighty fine in this nautical look, complete with her hair tucked into the turtleneck. Simply tuck your top into a pair of high waist pants with metal buttons, throw on a cute beret and you’re all set. You can always opt for a less dramatic turtleneck, of course.

Wow, Yoyo Cao is really working it – a black-and-white ensemble will never be the same when you layer a white dress over a black turtleneck and pants. Be sure to choose a dress that has a slit or one that you can unbutton for the same effect, so you can flaunt it as you sashay down the streets.

Try wearing a gilet as a dress – it’s of a comfortable length and the fabric is flowy for maximum circulation of cooling air. Layer it over a sleeveless turtleneck to beat the heat and look extra put together. If you want more definition, feel free to cinch your waist with a belt. A pair of light pink sandals will add a sweet finishing touch.
