Spine-tingling, campy, or something risque; these celebs truly pull out all stops for Halloween. Let these over-the-top Halloween looks get you inspired on brainstorming (and perfecting) your own; here, we pick some of the best costumes that these stars have worn.
As Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas (2011)
We love the kooky gothic get-up; and how Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg has gone all out for Halloween. In 2011, she showed up as a stitched-up ragdoll with cerulean body paint, dolly eyelashes, striped stockings and oh, a bright orange wig too. It’s not exactly like the original Tim Burton character; which just makes Trachtenberg’s costume one-of-a-kind.
As Poison Ivy from Batman & Robin (2011)
The reality TV star sizzled as Poison Ivy at a Midori Halloween party in 2011. While this Kardashian always goes the sexy route for Halloween, she does rock the look. Her Wonder Woman costume, circa 2008, was such a hit that even her mum Kris Jenner couldn’t resist trying the look and tweeting it this year; albeit with a wardrobe malfunction (Jenner later deleted the Instagram photo).
As the Queen of Hearts from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (2007)
The heavy velvet dress, her heart-shaped pout and her daughter Emerson Rose as Alice; Teri Hatcher takes the crown as one of the best Queen of Hearts we’ve ever seen for Halloween. She was dressed for a good cause too, at a Children Affected by AIDS Foundation charity event in 2007.
As undead Marie Antoinette (2008)
Dressing up as the French queen for Halloween is one thing; but this style star makes her costume a notch more original – and theatrical – with chalky white makeup and a bloodied neck.
As Karl Lagerfeld (2007)
The white ponytail, shades, gloves and the fitted suit; nope, it’s not Karl himself but fashion designer Roberto Cavalli who did a great impersonation of the Kaiser at the Cavalli Cipriani Halloween Ball in 2007.
As a child beauty pageant queen (2011)
Another celebrity camping it up for laughs – Fergie decided she’d had enough of the child beauty pageant craze and crowned herself as one for Halloween.
As a dead body (2011)
Halloween costume is serious art for Heidi Klum. At her 2011 party, Klum was wheeled in on a gurney by two blood-splattered “doctors”. Although it’s admittedly hard to pick the “best” Klum costume thus far, this 2011 look was truly the most hair-raising yet. Prior to that, Klum was a robot superhero (glittery body paint included), a head-to-toe hairy monkey, a cat on two legs and more outrageous costumes; in previous years she dressed-to-match with her then-husband Seal too.
As zombie newlyweds (2006)
More glam than ghoulish, Christina Aguilera gives the zombie bride look a bit of pretty with the pink locks and minimal blood. Appearing with then-husband Jordan Bratman, their spooky get-up is still one of the most memorable zombie costumes around.
As the Frankenstein monster and his bride (2010)
Another set of memorable Halloween couple costuming: Actress Kate Beckinsale shows up in beehive updo as an almost enchanting Bride of Frankenstein’s monster, with husband Len Wiseman donning a mask for the occasion.
As The Incredibles (2011)
Once she wore raunchy firefighter attire, then in another year, she donned a kitschy cookie bodysuit while husband Nick Cannon was a carton of milk. Now a proud mum, Mariah Carey shelves her skimpier costumes. For Halloween last year, the pair dressed up as Disney superheros with twins Moroccan and Monroe Cannon.
