Ladies, grab your hairspray and grips because buns are back and bolder than ever. Simple, stylish and perfect for your inner lazy fashonista self, this hot hair trend is a sure fire way to sort out your summer hair woes this season.

The hottest bun trend to hit the catwalk is the topknot. The out-there style, otherwise known as a super-high bun, is enjoying a sudden return to the spotlight thanks to designers including Phillip Lim.

Maria Grachvogel jumped on board the bun train at her Spring/Summer show. Models strutted down the catwalk sporting tightly-held topknots teamed with dominant brows and dark vampish lips. Other designers, such as Christopher Kane, sent their models down the runway with their own take on the classic bun.

From low slung, relaxed and dishevelled, to high, tightly scraped-back and elegant, there is no end to the possibilities of wearing this classic hairstyle.

The topknot is a flexible style that can be adapted to any occasion. While one might assume the relaxed nature of this look is best suited to informal events, it’s quickly becoming the event-do of choice for many budding fashionistas. Team your topknot with lashings of red lipstick and smoky eyes for a dramatic style that oozes Hollywood glam. Style with hair extensions for a sexy and volumised take on the trend.

If an attention-grabbing topknot is not your thing, then add your own stamp to the bun trend. Loose, textured buns are a great way to take your outfit from a day to night look. They look pretty and relaxed during the day, and ooze sexiness and edginess for a more look-at-me version for an evening event.

Take inspiration from Rodarte, Philip Lim and Gianfranco Ferre by keeping your bun smooth, elegant and incredibly sleek. Remember to use hairspray to tame any unruly tresses for a perfect take on the more structured version of the trend.

Experiment with different partings to create an instant updated look. Side versions are big news again this season, as are middle partings, do use your comb to find the best suited for your face shape. Experiment with bangs to soften the look. © Cover Media
