Not all of us want to smell of perfume, especially not on a hot Summer day. However, a faint whiff of something pleasant is another story.

Enter the Splash. While an Eau de Parfum contains ten to 20 per cent precious perfume oils and an Eau de Toilette five to 15 per cent, a light and airy Splash contains only two per cent perfume oils (the same concentration as a men’s after shave).

Therefore, the scent is milder and more discreet – and perfect for Summer.

Closely related is the body mist, which often contains hydrating and skin softening ingredients.

Marc Jacobs Kumquat

Marc Jacobs Kumquat
MJ is the king of splashes, creating new and exciting ones every year. In the Summer trio of 2012 we see Hibiscus, Kumquat and Rain in what MJ named the Tropical Collection. The favourite for summer is the citrusy Kumquat, created by Richard Herpin. Top notes include tangerine, bergamot and orange, heart notes kumquat, tiger orchid and jasmine, and base notes woods, cedar and musk.

The Body Shop Shea Body Mist

The Body Shop Shea Body Mist
The star of a collection of eight different body mists. Where most of them are in the younger fruity/berry direction, this fragrance it a little nutty (from the shea) but it also contains coumarin and vanilla. Wonderfully refreshing and feminine.

Victoria’s Secret The Body Mist

Victoria’s Secret The Body Mist
From the sexy American lingerie brand comes not only underwear but also a line of affordable and cute beauty products. Sensual fragrance The Body Mist is a woody, musky floral number with top notes of crushed leaves, freesia and mandarin, heart notes of water hyacinth, cucumber and stephanotis and base notes of white musk and sandalwood.
