Marchesa fashion designer Georgina Chapman
Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig plan to launch their first scent this fall.

The fashion designers have turned the high impact and glamorous signature style they are known for with their red carpet designs into a fragrance.

“Eveningwear evokes an emotion, and this scent does the same thing,” Georgina said to WWD.com. “We looked at our handbags and the signature crystals they have, and we really wanted to incorporate that element.”

British born Marchesa co-founder Georgina and her partner Keren promise that the debut perfume, called Marchesa Parfume d’Extase, will be special. Reassuringly they say the fragrance will not make wearers feel sickly or sticky.

“We didn’t want anything too sweet,” Keren explained. “Georgina and I don’t like perfumes that can smell sort of sickly, so that was very important when we were going through the process.”

What can be expected is a fresh smell, containing the top notes iris, freesia and young violet leaves. In typical Marchesa style the bottle is almost ornamental in its careful and deluxe design. The perfume is set to launch in September in the US but no European release date has been confirmed. © Cover Media
