Qn: What do I need to keep in mind if I want to wear neon-bright matte lipstick? Can everyone pull off such colours?
Neon matte lipsticks don’t just belong on social media feeds – many of us can wear such trendy colours.
To pull it off, first and most importantly, you have to be daring – it’s about self-confidence. Secondly, brows have to be drawn and filled in to make sure there is a balance between the eyes and the lips, that they’re both strong and provide two focal points on the face, says Larry.
Use a brow powder like Urban Decay's Brow Box ($48) or brow pencil like Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil ($56) to fill in your brows and enhance its natural shape.
And lastly, make sure you conceal any redness or uneven tone under the eyes and around lips and nasal folds. Why? Because we want to keep the skin as beautiful and flawless as possible so that it’s the lips that stand out, not the face’s redness.
This means taking the time to massage in skincare products to plump skin up. To maintain a light, natural effect, only apply foundation or concealer where needed. After all, you don’t want to have a heavily made-up look after you’ve spent time prepping your skin.
There are various brands with beautiful matte lipsticks. Drugstore labels like Bourjois, Maybelline, L’Oreal and Revlon offer some great options. For cult brands, try Kat Von D, Fenty, Stila, Marc Jacobs or Sephora Collections. Luxury brand Cle De Peau Beaute does beautiful semi-matte finish lipsticks, while Clinique has nice ones that are fully matte.
To complete the look, draw a thick, neat line of eyeliner along the lashline and you're all set.
