Hair is more than just well, hair. In many stories and cultures over the years and around the globe, hair has deep roots in politics, cultural heritage and plays a big role in human history. In some African cultures, having one’s head shaved means to rid them of their dignity and symbolises a cultural death, and in modern societies, we willingly pay hundreds of dollars to have fake hair attached to our head in order to achieve IG-worthy luscious locks.

A full, healthy head of hair is highly coveted. It shapes our face and can instantly transform our appearances, and is an indicator of youth and vitality. However, modern-day environmental stressors, over-processing and poor hygiene habits have created the perfect recipe for a less-than-healthy head of hair. From an itchy scalp to hair loss, most of us are unaware that the root of unhealthy hair is not always by-product of age or genetics but something this is actually manageable – we’re talking dandruff.

Dandruff occurs when oil on the scalp causes skin cell to lump together and appear as white flakes. It can be caused by a number of things, like dry skin, allergies to certain products or oil build up. There are 2 types of dandruff: greasy dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) which causes oily, yellow flakes or scales to form on your scalp and stick to your head and hair; and regular/dry dandruff, which are dry, white flakes that form on your scalp and fall from your head and hair.

Apart from being unsightly, either type of dandruff can seriously affect your hair and scalp health. Greasy dandruff causes temporary hair loss as it makes your scalp oilier than usual, which over time inflames the skin and makes it itchy or even painful to the touch. With the excess sebum production, hair follicles can become clogged, which makes it harder for new hair to grow and easier for existing strands to fall. Dry dandruff on the other hand, indirectly causes hair loss as it makes the scalp itchy, and vigorous scratching over time weakens the roots of your hair and causes it to fall out. Yikes!

If you’ve noticed than you’ve been losing more hair than usual (note that 50-150 strands a day is normal) and you’ve been suffering from dandruff, don’t fret, because NaturVital has come up with brand new anti-dandruff formulas that are so effective, they’ve been approved by the pharmacy faculty of the University of Barcelona.

Featuring new, active plant ingredients, the new NaturVital Anti-Dandruff shampoos are even more effective than their current synthetic formulation, if you can believe it. Available for both Normal and Greasy hair types, the shampoos (naturally) do not contain parabens preservatives, silicon phthalates or PEGs.

Both the Normal and Greasy shampoo contain Jua, a plant that is known for being an effective remedy in treating dandruff while simultaneously soothing itchy scalps thanks to its calming properties. The Greasy shampoo additionally taps into the power of lime to moisturise and purify the scalp, and menthol (from the mint plant) to stimulate and smoothen hair. Bonus: it even activates skin microcirculation.
