Review: 2 new floral overnight masks to make your beauty sleep even better

They smell so amazing, you'll want to smear them on every night

Mamonde Enriched Nutri Sleeping Mask with Evening Primrose, $28 from Mamonde’s Boutique

What it promises: A sleeping mask with micro-capsules filled with evening primrose oil to intensely nourish dry skin while you are asleep, leaving it healthy and radiant in the morning.

Packaging: This comes in a plastic jar that’s lightweight and handy. No worries about accidently dropping it.

First impression: The mask has a subtle perfumed floral scent that’s very pleasant. The scent doesn’t linger long on the skin and dissipates about minutes after you massage it on. The texture is a gel cream with tiny beads of the evening primrose oil in it. When you rub the cream to apply it, the beads burst and disappear, releasing the ingredient onto your skin. It glides onto skin easily and a little goes a long way. Skin feels very moisturised instantly, but can feel a little oily in the first 10 minutes.

Our verdict: This overnight mask is plenty rich and hydrating, enough on its own without my usual rich night cream. I feel like it seals in the moisture overnight so my skin doesn’t feel dried out in the morning, after a whole night in an air-conditioned room. It is best on dry skin or skin that’s in need of richer nourishment. It left my tired skin more supple, smooth and hydrated in the morning.

Canvas Rose Otto Overnight Intense Moisture Mask, $108 from Lazada

What it promises: It offers immediate and long-lasting hydration, and is supposed to leave skin softer, rehydrated, and minimises visible lines overnight. Use it on clean skin once a week or even nightly.

Packaging: A smooth ceramic jar with a plastic lid. It fits in the palm of your hand and is pretty heavy so it feels luxe.

First impression: The moment you twist open the lid, the natural smell of rose wafts out. It smells so lovely, not overly perfumed and more like a subtle essential oil. You almost can’t wait to apply it on your skin because it smells so amazing. The gel-cream texture feels light and refreshing when you pick it up with your fingertips. When smoothed onto the skin, it leaves a pleasant cooling sensation and feels like skin is quenched and soothed, and any stickiness disappears in a minute, leaving skin soothed and soft.

Our verdict: The rose scent won me over first. It lingered on my skin and made the space around me smell lovely too, plus the aroma was so relaxing. Although it feels moisturising when first applied overnight, it felt a bit lighter than my usual night cream. My skin needed more nourishment and hydration as I sleep in a moisture-sapping air-conditioned room. Subsequently, I applied this mask first followed by a thin layer of my night cream, to get the best of both worlds.
