When you have terribly dry or irritable skin, it can be tough finding an adequately nourishing and calming body wash or moisturiser. About a year ago, my brother began to develop eczema spots all over his arms and legs. And so began a search for dermatologist-tested body care products that would help calm the itching and alleviate dryness.
My skin is also on the drier side that breaks out in the occasional dry spot or rash, so I’ve always been very particular about the body wash I use. Even certain brands that have supposedly nourishing body wash formulas feel too drying on my skin, which would get tight and itchy the instant I was out of the shower.
Personal anecdotes aside, dehydrated and damaged skin can happen to any of us. As it is, most of us spend entire days sitting in drying air-conditioned offices. Internal factors like your genetics (getting increasingly dry skin as you get older is a thing), hormonal changes, or your lifestyle can affect your skin – If you’re stressed or if you’re a heavy drinker or smoker, odds are you’re also more likely to have dehydrated skin.
Having a sudden bout of irritated skin or increased sensitivity can often be a result of your skin being too dehydrated or the moisture barrier being damaged, which is why you need to make sure you’re using the right body care products to deal with it.
