From The Straits Times    |

I live near a particularly popular food centre that’s jam-packed every weekend because the food is famous. Despite this, I never eat there, the primary reason being the smell. It has a fairly low roof and the fumes from all the hawker stalls linger thickly in the air. Step in for all of 30 seconds and you’ll begin to smell like the place (and will continue to smell like it long after).

Every time a friend comes to stay they want to eat there, and I have to remind myself not to wash my hair beforehand because I’ll have to wash it after.

Washing your hair isn’t the only solution. If you’ve tried using perfume in the past or are wondering if regular perfume is good for your hair, let me tell you that the alcohol content in perfumes is generally higher, which can dry out your hair in the long run and mess with its natural oils.

A good rule of thumb to follow if you want to use a regular perfume on your hair: Spray it in the air and then walk through the cloud of mist so the alcohol has a chance to evaporate first.

There are a fair few fragrance sprays out there made for your hair, but you don’t have to use a hair mist that’s specifically dedicated to making your hair smell good. A nourishing spray or something that gives your hair shine with a nice scent will do too!

#1 Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Fresh Hair Mist, $58 for 58ml

If you’re already familiar with and love the Coco Madamoiselle fragrance from Chanel, this one’s a no-brainer. The hair mist is said to be a little less citrusy and musky than the perfume, but remains light and fresh. It also promises to give your hair gorgeous shine and protect it from drying out!

Chanel is also set to launch its Chance Eau Vive Hair Mist on December 31, 2015, which will be a companion of the floral and zesty Chance Eau Vive fragrance.

#2 Percy & Reed Eau My Goodness Shine and Fragrance Spray, $45 for 100ml

I love using shine sprays as a finishing touch after styling my hair, or in the middle of the day when my hair is looking a little frizzy and dull. The scent in this spray from Percy & Reed is supposed to be an airy floral nod to the 70s flower power era.

#3 Christian Dior Miss Dior Hair Mist, $70 for 30ml

If you love the Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet perfumes and want to leave a wafting trail of the light fresh floral scent everywhere you go, this hair mist will be right up your alley. As the priciest of the lot, we love that it’s a fairly long-lasting hair mist. It contains Italian mandarin essence, damascus rose and Indonesian patchouli essence.

#4 Morrocanoil Glimmer Shine Spray, $52 for 100ml

This finishing hair shine spray is infused with argan oil, vitamins and antioxidants that create an invisible veil said to help protect hair against damage from environmental elements like the sun, saltwater and chlorine. While its smell may not be the focal point, it has a scent so amazing that the brand created a candle based on the fragrance that has long since been a signature smell in many of Morrocanoil’s products.
